THE next generation of Volkswagen’s iconic T6 Transporter van and people mover range is headed for Australia, with an expected arrival in quarter three of this year. Best of all, the new T6.1 range will also include a camper van variant, known as the California Beach.
As one of Volkswagen’s longest running model line-ups, the Transporter has been a favourite with Australian businesses and families alike for generations, and will again feature a range of body styles, engines and transmissions.
The move from T6 to T6.1 sees a raft of updates too, including an updated front exterior design in keeping with the latest Volkswagen design language, and a new interior design with the latest infotainment technology.
Advanced driver assistance technology including front assist, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear traffic alert and crosswind assist. The T6.1 will also premiere a new engine and transmission combination.
A TDI340 turbocharged diesel with 110kW, paired to a DSG transmission and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, will feature for the first time.
Director of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Australia, Ryan Davies, is eagerly awaiting the arrival of the T6.1 range, and finally giving Australian Kombi camper fans what they’ve been asking for.
“For our customers, the Transporter is more than just a van; it’s an office, a troupe carrier and a workhorse,” he said.
“The T6.1 range is more than just a face lift. With the T6.1 update of our popular van and people mover variants, our Transporter range gives customers even greater access to our latest tech, design and safety systems,” he added.
“Best of all, with the introduction of the T6.1 California Beach, we are finally answering fan and customer demand for a factory-backed, turn-key weekender – we’re ecstatic to be bringing the Kombi van back to Oz.”
In the coming months, Volkswagen Australia will offer further details of local specification and pricing, ahead of its introduction in the third quarter of this year.
