Volkswagen partners with Jayco to create Crafter Kampervan

Talk about a match made in heaven. Volkswagen has announced a collaboration with Aussie recreational vehicle manufacturer Jayco to create the Crafter Kampervan, a mighty lifestyle vehicle that will become the halo of VW’s evolving van range.

This latest collaboration follows on from the special California edition’s of the Caddy and Multivan, with the new offering coming complete with a 5-year, unlimited kilometre warranty.

A living-and-sleeping quarters version of the Crafter, the Kampervan will be available in three grades from July, including the identically named base model, plus a Style and All-Terrain variant. The latter features Seikel off-road equipment.

At 6.8m long and 2m wide, the Crafter Kampervan contains all the fixtures needed to make life on the road possible. It has 4MOTION all-wheel-drive, and will seat four, sleeping for up to three.

Multiple dining and seating areas, as well as fresh and waste water tanks are also included, along with a full internal bathroom, with a toilet and shower. The kitchen includes a two burner gas cooktop, microwave, fridge, sink, fresh water, ample storage and bench space.

If that hasn’t already piqued your interest, there’s also reverse cycle air-conditioning, TV and DVD, and a stereo with internal and external speakers. It also has a Lithium house battery with additional solar, diesel heating and a hot water system for those chilly nights.

Ambience is also catered for with internal/external LED lighting, as well as an outdoor awning. The Crafter Kampervan has been extensively tested at the Anglesea Proving Ground in Victoria, ensuring it’s been tested and tuned for local conditions.

Set to be available in seven colours, including four two-tone offerings, it’s been described as another milestone in the brand’s collaboration with Australian auto building, by Volkswagen commercial vehicle brand director Ryan Davies.

“Just as Walkinshaw took the Amarok to the next level, Jayco as the leading brand in its field, is making the Crafter Kampervan the perfect choice for those who want to drive a brilliantly engineered vehicle – then live and sleep comfortably across endless Australian destinations.”

According to Jayco’s motorised division national sales manager, Bruce Astbury, the partnership embodies the touring lifestyle both brands offer.

“This is a partnership that will enhance the depth of the Volkswagen range and continue to support local employment at our state-of-the-art, 50-acre, Dandenong South facility.”

Customers can register interest in the Volkswagen Crafter Kampervan online.
