Volkswagen has announced the arrival of a very special Volkswagen ID. Buzz as part of the ID. Buzz World Tour; a record-setting journey spanning across the globe, driving through 75 countries and more than 80,000km.
Led by renowned long-distance driver Rainer Zietlow, the tour showcases the reliability, range and innovation of the brand’s flagship EV in real-world conditions across continents including, now, Australia.
Volkswagen’s all-electric reinterpretation of the iconic Kombi will echo the spirit of that classic original, which is renowned as one of the iconic cross-country touring vehicles, woven into the country’s driving fabric.
Australia now marks a key milestone in the journey, with stops in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane. The ID. Buzz World Tour is more than a drive too: it’s a statement – imprinted by the nostalgic yet cutting edge electric vehicle.
Rainer Zietlow is no stranger to Australian roads either. In 2024, he already completed two Guinness World Record drives, including the largest GPS drawing ever made by an electric vehicle, tracing “70 Years of Vee Dub” across Australia in a Volkswagen ID.4 GTX.

He also set the record for the fastest crossing of all 10 Australian deserts, completed in just six days and 17 hours in an Amarok. Volkswagen Australia managing director Karsten Seifert said the ID. Buzz proves electric vehicles can be fun and functional.
“The ID. Buzz is more than a vehicle: it’s a statement of progress, freedom and connection. On the Australian leg of Rainer’s world record journey, it’s proving that electric mobility isn’t just possible, it’s unstoppable,” he said.
“From vibrant city streets to the toughest outback terrain, the ID. Buzz shows that sustainability and performance go hand in hand. This world record is on its way and Australia is a defining chapter in proving that electric mobility knows no boundaries.”
