Skoda understands that Australians appreciate a good warm hatch: something not as wild as a full-fledged hot hatch, but nimble enough to energise the everyday commute. Enter the 2022 Fabia Monte Carlo Edition 150.
Appropriately named after its horsepower, the new Fabia is available in its top-line configuration, with the Monte Carlo fitted with an endless list of standard equipment. While it doesn’t come cheap at $37,990 driveaway, it is still set to undercut its European rivals.
The Monte Carlo is fitted with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, churning out 110kW and 250Nm. With a tare mass of just 1270kg, it will hit 100km/h from a standstill in just 8.0 seconds.
Like most Volkswagen Group hatchbacks, power is delivered exclusively to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG transmission. It has a stellar 4.9-litres/100km claimed economy figure, as well as sports suspension.
The Monte Carlo is also treated with a gloss black grille, spoiler, rear diffuser and badging. However, if you want the ‘go faster’ Velvet Red or Phoenix Orange metallic paint, you need to shell out a cool $500.
It’s equipped with the latest safety gadgets and driver aids, including lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and a rear-view camera. Buyers can opt for the Park Assist feature, but we reckon your $1000 is best spent elsewhere.
Skoda hasn’t neglected the interior either, as it features a 9.2-inch touchscreen Amundsen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch virtual cockpit, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient lighting, and heated seats.
Most impressively, the Monte Carlo is available with a range of service packs, which are priced at $1500 for five years and $2100 for seven years.
While Skoda traditionally offers a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, buyers will be upgraded to a 7-year warranty with the purchase of an eligible service pack before the end of September. To find out more, visit your local Skoda dealer.
