COOL new colour combinations, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a host of new safety features mark the evolution of the Toyota Corolla hatch for 2020, with the new model also scoring and updated look and feel.
Priced from $23,335 plus on-roads for the entry level Ascent Sport petrol manual variant, the Corolla hatch gains a number of improvements, including the latest multimedia system, with smartphone compatibility across the range.
From a safety perspective, the SX and ZR versions of the Corolla hatch now feature a new parking support brake (PKSB) that operates at low speeds of up to 15km/h and uses sensors to detect static objects and rear crossing vehicles that pose a potential hazard.
The mid range Corolla SX and range topping ZR variants also gain rear cross traffic alert as part of their blind spot monitoring system, which alerts drivers to the presence of vehicles passing behind the car via a warning buzzer.
Indicators on the exterior mirrors and an icon displayed on the rear view camera image also provide additional awareness as part of the system. The ZR variant also gains a new 8-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support.
It’s a welcome enhancement to the popular sporty looking variant, which also comes with the option of a new two tone paint finish, with a black roof, pillars and hatch top spoiler complementing a variety of body colours, including a new feverish red finish.
The updated Corolla hatch is offered in three grades, the Ascent Sport, SX and ZR. Each grade is available with a choice of a 1.8-litre petrol electric hybrid, or a 125kW 2.0-litre petrol engine.
The Ascent Sport petrol CVT auto is $24,835, while its hybrid counterpart is $26,335. The SX is priced at $28,235 for the petrol model and $29,735 for the hybrid, both with a CVT auto, and the ZR auto is offered at $32,135 for the petrol and $33,635 for the hybrid.
All prices are plus on-roads. The 2020 Toyota Corolla hatch arrives in dealerships across Australia from 1 November 2019.
