Team Mitsubishi Ralliart will compete in the Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) 2022, officially supported by Mitsubishi Motors’ technical expertise. Their weapon of choice will be a tricked-up Triton ute.
A private team owned by TANT SPORTS in Thailand, they’ll tackle the 2022 AXCR, scheduled to take place between August 6 to 12, with new team director and two-time Dakar Rally champion, Hiroshi Masuoka.
“For many years, Mitsubishi Motors competed in the World Rally Championship and the Dakar Rally, winning championships in both of them and improving the driving performance of Mitsubishi cars that can be enjoyed with peace of mind in any weather or road conditions,” Masuoka said.
“Mitsubishi Motors’ participation in the AXCR in the form of technical support will strengthen our product uniqueness, especially for ASEAN strategic models, including pickup trucks and SUVs,” he added.
AXCR is a cross-country rally event certified by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). Set predominantly in Thailand, the competition is held in Southeast Asia’s uniquely hot and humid climate.
On gruelling off-road courses in the mountains and jungles that test vehicles and crews to their limits, drivers and teams must battle the elements and each other.
Mitsubishi Motors will leverage the feedback earned through this rally competition to further hone its strengths, especially in terms of body and chassis rigidity, vehicle control and off-road performance.
The car maker’s performance brand was revived in November 2021, with Mitsubishi Motors showing the Ralliart Vision Concept at the 2022 Tokyo Motor Show.
By participating in motor sport activities such as the AXCR with Team Mitsubishi Ralliart, Mitsubishi Motors will further showcase its engineering spirit, and aims to prove the excitement provided by its cars.
