With Suzuki’s legendary GSX-R1000 marking four decades this year, the Japanese bike maker has confirmed an updated limited run 40th Anniversary edition is headed down under. Dubbed the GSX-R1000R, it’s due here in the second half of 2026.
The GSX-R1000 has built a global reputation for performance, reliability and pure riding fun, earning 15 FIM Endurance World Championship titles since its 2001 debut. Its success is rooted in cutting-edge technology developed through Suzuki’s top-level racing efforts.
The GSX-R1000R carries forward the legacy of the GSX-R with a design philosophy that honours its roots while embracing bold innovation. “Designed to Perform, Built to Thrill” isn’t just a tagline; it reflects the engineering mindset behind every component.
While local ride away pricing for the new version won’t be announced until closer to its release, we can confirm its 999cc engine will produce 143.5kW of power and 110Nm of torque. It will sport a 6-speed transmission, slipper clutch and bi-directional quick shifter.

Ride modes, smart traction control and full LED lighting are also standard on the 203kg offering, as is a 43mm SHOWA balance free front fork. It will feature adjustable compression and rebound damping, along with spring preload.
At the rear will be a link-type SHOWA balance free rear cushion lite shock with adjustable high and low speed compression, rebound damping and spring preload. Stopping power will come from Brembo Monobloc radial-mounted 4-piston calipers at the front.
These will be paired with dual 320mm T-drive hybrid discs with ABS, with a Nissin single piston caliper with a single 220mm disc with ABS at the rear. Revised engine internals and precision-tuned settings feature. Winglets are available as an optional extra.
Each example of the 40th Anniversary edition will wear exclusive logos on the fuel tank, fairing sides, muffler body, seat top and even the key mascot, celebrating four decades of legendary performance in every detail.

The GSX-R1000R is enhanced with refined electronic rider aids that boost performance, confidence and control. Backed by a 3-year unlimited kilometre warranty, it’s set to be offered in three colour schemes.
This includes Pearl Vigor Blue / Pearl Tech White, Candy Daring Red / Pearl Tech White, and Pearl Ignite Yellow / Metallic Mat Stellar Blue. Interested customers can register their interest on the Suzuki Motorcycles Australia website or by talking to their local dealership.
