Subaru teases new Australian Outback ahead of 2021 launch

SUBARU Australia has confirmed the sixth generation Outback sports utility vehicle will be on sale in Australia from March 2021, packed with new features and technology. At the same time, it will mark 25 years since its local debut.

The all-wheel drive wagon will become the latest model to adopt the Subaru Global Platform underpinnings, providing safety and efficiency benefits. More importantly, we have the teaser images.

While imagery of the complete Australian Outback has yet to be released, Subaru says it will launch with a specification unique to the local market and confirmed the wagon will be built at Subaru Corporation’s Yajima factory in Japan.

The Outback will gain an even higher level of safety and driver assist technology, including the driver monitoring system first featured on the new Forester, which has drawn praise for helping maintain driver alertness.

It will also feature the latest generation of Subaru’s EyeSight driver assist system across the range, highlighting the brand’s commitment to innovation.

A new level of interior refinement and luxury will be highlighted by the large tablet-type central touch screen, with easy fingertip control of infotainment options and key vehicle controls.

On the outside, the rugged exterior styling reinforces the Outback’s SUV capabilities, and every variant will be powered by a refined 2.5-litre horizontally opposed Boxer engine.

And in a win for towing enthusiasts, all new Outbacks will feature the model’s best-ever braked towing capacity of 2,000kg.

“Outback continues to set the standard for safety and driveability with an advanced suite of safety and driver assist technologies,” Subaru Australia GM Blair Read said.

“Outback will have an incredible specification list cementing it as the flagship of the Subaru range. This will appeal to both loyal Subaru customers and newcomers, who are increasingly aware of the compelling whole-of-life value that Subaru ownership represents.”

The Outback established a whole new class of vehicle when the original version launched in Australia in 1996, becoming the original crossover wagon. Since then, it has become a key cornerstone of the Subaru range.

Full features and specification details for the Outback will be released early in 2021. Customers can register their interest in new generation Outback at: www.subaru.com.au/around-the-corner/register-your-interest/outback
