Subaru opens order books for Crosstrek SUV

Bolder and more technologically advanced than the XV it replaces, the new Subaru Crosstrek small SUV is now available to pre-order. Built on the brand’s global platform architecture, every variant in the range is all-wheel drive.

All models sport a 2.0-litre direct injection boxer or e-boxer (in the case of the hybrids) engine, and are petrol powered. The range includes the Crosstrek 2.0L, 2.0R and 2.0S as well as the Hybrid L and Hybrid S. Each is mated to an 8-speed lineartronic transmission.

Power output from the standard engines is 115kW and 196Nm, while the hybrid offers 110kW and 196Nm. The offroad mode or “X-mode” is included as standard across the range at a minimum.

The more premium 2.0R, 2.0S and Hybrid S models will gain Subaru’s new two mode “X-mode”. Interior trim is a Tricot with Tetra embossing in a charcoal colour on the base, while mid-level models grain premium cloth in charcoal or grey.

Top trim levels score leather accented black trim. The top-level S models will also include an electric sunroof. An upgraded front-facing monitoring camera with a wide-angle lens means the Crosstrek now has speed sign recognition too.

You’ll also find lane centreing functionality and a wider field of view for spotting hazards, while a 360-degree camera setup aids parking. A new 11.6-inch HD touchscreen in the centre controls infotainment and features.

A new Harmon Kardon sound system is on board, along with wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Type-A and Type-C USB ports also feature, along with nine airbags.

Featuring a more forward stance, bulging fenders and a three-dimensional face with a large hexagonal grille as the centrepiece, the Crosstrek comes with LED headlamps on all variants. The premium S spec will gain LED DRLs too.

!7-inch alloys feature on the L models, while the remainder of the range comes with 18-inch alloys. There are four new colours too, including Sun Blaze Pearl, Oasis Blue, Sapphire Blue Pearl and Offshore Blue Metallic.

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek starts from $35,990 plus on-roads and tops out at a reasonable $45,090 plus on-roads for the AWD Hybrid S. All variants come with a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty and 12 months Subaru roadside assistance.
