Mitsubishi is gearing up to launch the new ASX VR-e, its first new electric vehicle since the i-MiEV, and an Exhaust Notes Australia reader has now spotted it, completely uncamouflaged, out on the streets of Adelaide.
Pictured near Adelaide Airport, only a few blocks away from the brand’s Australian headquarters, it isn’t a prototype but rather a near-production specification vehicle that our eagle-eyed reader saw.
Wearing the model’s hero green hue and adorned with a sizeable set of alloys, it would be fair to assume this is one of the flagship variants in the lineup. LS, Aspire, Exceed, and GSR grades are all set to be offered when the ASX VR-e launches in Q4 2026.
When we first reported on the new model’s impending arrival, Mitsubishi noted that extensive Australian testing and tuning had been conducted by Mitsubishi Motors global and regional teams.
Even without this evidence, quite likely final verification before its launch, it’s no surprise the brand has looked to incorporate local testing and tuning. This has already been a key selling point for other vehicles in the Mitsubishi lineup, such as last year’s Outlander update.
That local tuning also promises sporty performance and responsive handling, something designed to capture the essence of the iconic Galant VR-4 of which it is named in honour.
Developed in conjunction with Taiwanese electric vehicle manufacturer Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, the ASX VR-e is the first of two new EVs planned to join Mitsubishi’s Australian lineup. The other is expected to be based on the upcoming Nissan Leaf.
These new models will form a key part of Mitsubishi’s global plans to have EVs constituting 50 percent of all sales by 2030, and 100 percent of sales by 2035.
