THE updated version of ŠKODA’s Kodiaq SUV reaches showrooms late this year, with the brand’s halo Kodiaq RS set to arrive early next year. The range is set to feature a new exterior design and drivetrain packages.
Easily the brand’s flagship SUV, it heralded an evolution as a mainstream auto brand locally when it arrived in 2017. In 2022, that happens again, with the RS to switch to a 180kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, dropping the diesel powerplant.
Paired to a 7-speed DSG transmission driving all four wheels, the performance variant also features full Matrix LED headlights with AFS, new 20-inch Sagittarius alloy wheels, leather seats with ventilation up front, and animated indicators on the rear.
“Since the Kodiaq was introduced in 2017 and the first Kodiaq RS in 2019, ŠKODA has built a range of SUVs, including Kamiq and Karoq, which have brought our challenger brand to greater attention,” ŠKODA Australia director Michael Irmer said.
“Kodiaq has significantly contributed to the brands perception in Australia and has brought all the attributes of a ŠKODA into the large SUV category. It is a fully family functional seven seat capable SUV with class-leading drivetrains and, of course, the array of Simply Clever features that always set ŠKODA apart.”
The Kodiaq comes in three grades (Style, Sportline and RS), all with four wheel drive, highly responsive turbo petrol engines and generous standard specification. The Style and Sportline are powered by the familiar 132kW/320Nm unit.
“As has been demonstrated overseas since the release of the new RS, the saving in weight from the diesel and the freer revving nature of the petrol engine lend the new version what we believe to be even more enjoyable driving capabilities,” Irmer added.
For the Style 4×4, new animated rear indicators feature, along with new dashboard decor, Scout elements in the lower part of the front and rear bumper, and a chrome front grille. The Sportline adds the same headlights as the RS to its existing specs.
A range of add-on packages are also available, including a Tech Pack, and Luxury Pack. The 2022 ŠKODA Kodiaq Style hits the road at $51,990, with the Sportline priced at $56,990, and the RS at $73,990. All prices are drive away.
Like all new ŠKODA models, the Kodiaq come with a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty and choice of three or five-year service packs. Further details are available from your local ŠKODA dealer.
