The famed Big Horn nameplate has arrived in Australia, with the new entry level RAM 1500 DT to carry the moniker. It utilises the same iconic 5.7-litre V8 HEMI engine, delivering 291kW and 556Nm through a silky-smooth 8-speed gearbox as its sibling.
This powertrain features eTorque technology, creating a mild hybrid system which assists the fuel-saving cylinder deactivation and delivers a refined stop/start function. The combined fuel consumption for the big truck is 12.2-litres/100km.
Offering up to 4.5-tonne maximum braked towing capacity, the Big Horn is available with a choice of either a 5-foot 7-inch or 6-foot 4-inch tub, complete with bedliner, multiple tie-down points, bed step, 18-inch alloys and a useful payload of 900kg.
Inside, robust cloth seats, a 60/40 stadium folding rear bench, trailer sway control function and hill-start assist double-down on the practicality equation, while a full suite of airbags help keep driver and passengers alike safe.
You’ll also find an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, electric rear sliding cab window, cruise control, and front and rear ParkSense park assist system.
Heated front seats, a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, steering wheel mounted audio controls and an electro-chromatic rear view mirror also feature.
The RAM 1500 Big Horn is priced from $119,950 plus on roads for the smaller tub, and $120,950 for the larger one. RAM’s 1500 range starts with the Express Crew and Warlock, the new 1500 Big Horn, Laramie and Laramie Sport.
The 1500 Limited heads the DT range, while there’s also a Heavy Duty 2500 and 3500 Laramie. The TRX is the halo model. If you’re keen on one and need finance, talk to CreditOne.
