TAKE one stock 2021 Harley-Davidson Breakout, draped in Midnight Crimson. Throw in an extensive parts and accessories catalogue from the American bike maker, and you have what we’re affectionately calling Project Breakout.
In partnership with the cool folks at Harley-Davidson here in Australia, we’re borrowing a current spec motorcycle, straight off the showroom floor. Over the next four months, with you, the reader’s help, we’ll modify it extensively.
But before we dive into exactly what that means, let’s talk about the bike. We reviewed the ever-popular Breakout back in April 2020, and described it as pretty much being sex on wheels. We stand by that statement, even today.
Its long muscular stance, phat 240mm rear tyre, and much slimmer 21-inch front is pure eye candy. From its flat style drag bars and lean stretched tank, to the rear fender which exposes all of that rear tyre, well what’s not to like, right.
Top this off with the 114 cubic inch Milwaukee Eight that produces 155Nm of torque from the soul of this beast’s 305kg mass. Any wonder it’s still one of the most popular reviews on our website.
With a low seat height of 665mm and 115mm of ground clearance, along with a 34 degree raked front end, the Breakout embodies an authentic hot rod persona, and epitomises the proper Harley-Davidson cruiser look and feel.

But back to the task at hand. As we said, we have a bike, and a parts catalogue (pretty much the Harley-Davidson owner’s bible) and more aftermarket goodies than you can throw the proverbial stick at.
From bling, to customised paint sets and luggage options, it’s all in there. You’ll find different seats, windshields, audio packages, and a whole magical section for the monster that is the Screamin’ Eagle engine.
And this is where you, our readers and viewers (if you’re watching on YouTube) come in. Have your say in the comments section below about what you’d like us to do with our stock 2021 Harley-Davidson Breakout 114. There’s a couple of catches though.
The first is, any items must be available in the Harley-Davidson parts and accessories catalogue (which you can download). The second, well, it must be legal to fit said part to this particular bike (which means Harley-Davidson has to give us a green light).
Nothing is off the table though, from bling and paint sets, to motor kits or perhaps even a whole new Screamin’ Eagle engine, to really get the juices flowing. Maybe you think we should turn the Breakout into a touring weapon?
At the end of Project Breakout, the bike will be handed over to a dealership to sell. So you can in fact have the chance to own the bike you helped design. But to do that, you need to have your say in the comments section. We recommend following us on social too.
Our 2021 Harley-Davidson Breakout 114 is being supplied by Harley-Davidson Australia as a long term loan. Modifications to the bike will be undertaken by Harley-Davidson Australia on behalf of Exhaust Notes Australia. Images provided courtesy of James Clarke.
