Order books set to open for INEOS Grenadier SUV

On May 18, Australian buyers will be able to order a shiny new INEOS Grenadier SUV, with the BMW-powered off roader set to be priced from $84,500 plus on-roads. It will be offered in a two-seat Utility Wagon and five-seat Station Wagon.

Along with the standard variants, two special edition models with high spec levels will also be available, in the form of the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster. The former is kitted out for extreme off-roading, while the latter is an adventure-lifestyle focused option.

The standard Grenadier Utility Wagon variant is a blank canvas, built for those needing a stripped back, no nonsense workhorse. It still has the comfort, refinement and standard features that today’s drivers expect.

Designed to carry loads, the Utility Wagon has two seats, a full-height cargo barrier and a full-length flat floor capable of taking a standard Euro pallet (1,200mm x 800mm). Customers can opt for a rear side window instead of the standard blank panel.

The Grenadier Station Wagon has five seats and is designed to offer the optimum balance between payload and passenger carrying capability. No matter which one you choose, all versions of the Grenadier are uncompromising, highly capable 4X4 vehicles.

From launch, INEOS will offer a wide range of factory-fit options, the pre-packaged Rough and Smooth options packs, and an extensive choice of accessories. An open-source approach means customers can affix existing kit too.

The online configurator at ineosgrenadier.com takes customers through the build of their perfect Grenadier, step-by-step, and for customers in most major launch markets, the vehicle price updates in real time.

An online finance calculator is part of the process too. With transparency and no negotiation with dealers to worry about, the price shown on the configurator is the price customers will pay.

A deposit payment of $5,000 – refundable until the vehicle contract is signed – secures a build slot (with first customer deliveries expected to arrive in Q4 of this year).

In Australia and New Zealand, INEOS will provide a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, while the ladder-frame chassis and body components will have a 12-year anti-perforation warranty.

The Grenadier is a modern, functional and highly capable 4X4, with what the company describes as a timeless form, dictated by the purpose of the vehicle. It’s boxy to maximise space efficiency, built for off road, straightforward and practical.

The Grenadier has been designed to be as fun to drive on the road as it is off too, and is powered by either a straight-six, 3.0-litre B57 diesel or B58 petrol engine. The refined turbo petrol engine produces 210kW and 450Nm.

The twin-turbo diesel generates 183kW and 550Nm. No matter the engine choice, the price is not impacted, and both are paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox from industry leader, ZF. For drivers who wish to take control, manual mode can be selected.

Enhanced with a heavy-duty torque converter, proven by the Grenadier’s extreme testing programme, the powertrain has been tuned for all conditions, simplifies off-road driving, and offers an ‘eyes on the trail, hands on the wheel’ experience.

The Grenadier is offered exclusively with permanent four-wheel-drive to ensure reliable and instant traction on any surface. The durable, manually-operated two-speed transfer case has a built-in centre differential which is lockable in both high and low range.

As well as the centre locking diff in the transfer case, two optional electronically actuated diff locks are available, front and rear, with 100 per cent mechanical engagement. The Grenadier has ground clearance of 264mm, and a wading depth to 800mm.

It has a braked towing capacity of 3,500kg and heavy-duty beam axles are essential for tackling extreme off-road terrain and carrying heavy loads. The Grenadier’s standard underride protection includes front and rear skid plates, as well as fuel tank protection.

Off road, the Grenadier pulls no punches. While it’s every inch a rugged 4X4, it ticks all the right boxes on the road, too. The chassis combines a five-link suspension set-up with Brembo brakes and Bridgestone (or optional BF Goodrich) tyres.

It rides on traditional, hard-wearing 17-inch steel wheels as standard, with 18-inch steel, 17-inch alloy and 18-inch alloy options available. On offer too are a range of precision driving modes, including Off-Road and Wading.

For maximum confidence when off-road, the central touchscreen displays relevant information for the driver, including vehicle attitude, steering angle, system temperatures and drivetrain utilisation.

Downhill Assist dynamically brakes individual wheels to enhance control on extreme descents. Uphill Assist, meanwhile, automatically holds the Grenadier in position after the driver releases the handbrake, and provides added safety when tackling steeper terrain.

The Grenadier features a refined interior with a spacious, airy cabin equipped with supportive RECARO seats, big, clearly labelled and well-spaced buttons for use with gloves, and an almost aeroplane like overhead control panel.

All the info is conveniently displayed on one screen to provide maximum visibility. Cloth seating is standard, but supple full-grain leather seats – in black, or in two-tone black-and-grey – are available as an option.

Leather front seats are heated as standard, with heated front seats an option for standard cloth and vinyl trim. Optional Safari windows offer additional light and fresh air into the cabin, and can be closed, ventilated, or removed completely.

A commanding driving position, large wing mirrors and the instrument cluster on the central touchscreen all contribute to unobstructed sight of both front corners and optimum visibility when driving off-road.

The Grenadier’s Central Control System, designed specifically for INEOS Automotive, displays all required information via an easy-to-control 12.3-inch touchscreen, which can be accessed using the buttons on the multifunction steering wheel or rotary controller.

The big 4×4 comes with a DAB+ radio, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, while Bluetooth connectivity and voice control allow for hands-free calls. Power is always on tap, with USB-A, USB-C and 12V sockets as standard.

It’s also equipped with range of in-built safety systems, including multiple airbags, ABS, electronic traction and stability control, automatic hazard warning, tyre pressure monitoring and SOS Emergency Call.

Uphill assist, downhill assist, cruise control and trailer stability assist also feature. The two-seat Utility Wagon sports a load space of 2,088-litres, while the five-seat Station Wagon has 1,152-litres of boot space.

The 2023 INEOS Grenadier is available in six solid and four metallic body colours, including Scottish White, Magic Mushroom, Eldoret Blue, Britannia Blue, Sela Green and Inky Black. Owners can also choose Shale Blue, Queen’s Red, Donny Grey and Sterling Silver.
