New Z4 and 8 Series models hit Australian showrooms

TWO of the most anticipated BMW models of the year, the new Z4 roadster and the 8 Series coupe and convertible, have all hit the Australian market together, with BMW today announcing pricing and specs for both ranges.

Designed by Aussie Calvin Luk, the rear-wheel drive BMW Z4 roadster is firmly focused on driving enjoyment, with an extroverted exterior and high quality, engaging interior, with a number of design changes enhancing the on-road experience.

The new model features an electrically-operated soft top that reduces complexity and centre of gravity over the previous Z4, and adds 101-litres of boot space. A wider track and shorter wheelbase also improve agility.

The Z4 retains its 50:50 weight distribution for perfect balance, and is available in three variants, all with a sports auto transmission. The range starts with the Z4 sDrive20i, which produces 145kW from a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.

It goes on sale at $84,990 plus on-roads, while the 190kW sDrive30i, featuring a tuned version of the same motor that’s in the sDrive20i base model, is $104,990, again plus on-roads.

The Z4 M40i M Performance variant outputs 250kW from its 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine and is priced at $124,900 plus on-roads.

The epitome of grand touring, the new 8 Series coupe and convertible launches in M850i M Performance guise, with a powerful 4.4-litre V8 twin-turbocharged petrol engine that generates 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque.

Priced at $272,900 plus on-roads for the coupe and $281,900 plus on-roads for the convertible, both variants feature the M Performance-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system, adaptive M suspension and an M Sport differential.

Active anti-roll stabilisation and integral active steering further enhance the 8 Series’ driving dynamics, while performance tyres ensure spectacular grip and traction. A distinctive, deep V8 sound is further enhanced by the sports exhaust system.

The convertible variant features a fully electric soft-top roof that smoothly opens or closes in 15 seconds, while both models feature a re-imagined interior with upgraded digital infotainment system and BMW’s latest connectivity solutions.
