New Volkswagen Tiguan gets ‘mini Touareg’ look and feel

Now in its third generation, the new Volkswagen Tiguan medium SUV will arrive in Australia in May, featuring a more premium cabin design. For the first time, it becomes a ‘mini Touareg’ in terms of the way it looks and feels inside and out.

The range kicks off with the 110TSI Life and a 110TSI Elegance, both offering 250Nm of torque from an engine that sports improved efficiency and refinement. The former grabs 19-inch alloys, keyless access, a powered tailgate and a 360-degree area view camera.

It also features Digital Cockpit Pro (widescreen driver display), a 12.9-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless smartphone charging and DAB+ digital radio.

Volkswagen’s travel assist (incorporating adaptive cruise control and lane assist for semi-autonomous and stop-and-go driving), front assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring and side assist with rear traffic alert are all standard.

They join side exit warning, front cross-traffic assist, oncoming vehicle braking when turning with swerve support, park assist plus (with semi-autonomous steering and throttle/braking to park) and dynamic road sign assist.

The 110TSI Elegance adds chrome roof rails and trim, rear privacy glass, LED Plus headlights with illuminated grille strip, LED tail-lights with illuminated centre strip, leather-appointed seat upholstery, plus front comfort sport seats with power adjustment.

These also feature heating, ventilation and massage. It’s available fully optioned with a panoramic sunroof and a Sound & Vision package (with head-up display and Harman/Kardon premium audio).

The Tiguan Elegance, as well as the Tiguan R-Line, will also be available with a 150TSI 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, delivering 0-100km/h in 7.1 seconds. They replace the existing 132TSI and 162TSI 4MOTION variants in the range.

The 150TSI Elegance adds the Sound & Vision package, HD Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high-beam, LED Plus rear tail-lights with dynamic indicators, a 15.0-inch Discover Pro Max navigation system and adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro).

The 150TSI R-Line builds on 110TSI Life equipment with an R-Line body kit, unique 19-inch alloys, LED Plus headlights, premium LED tail-lights with dynamic indicators, sports seats with integrated headrest and sports cloth upholstery and DCC Pro.

Progressive steering features, plus an optional panoramic sunroof and Sound & Vision package. For the first time, the R-Line will be available in flagship Tiguan 195TSI guise, succeeding the outgoing Tiguan R.

Combining 195kW of power and 400Nm of torque, the 2.0-litre turbo sets a new standard for a mix of luxury and performance, including being capable of 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds. It features 20-inch Leeds alloys and leather appointed upholstery.

You’ll also find electrically adjustable front comfort sport seats with memory, heating, ventilation and massage, a heated steering wheel, 15-inch Discover Pro Max navigation, a head-up display, HD Matrix LED headlights and dynamic light assist.

Premium LED tail lights with dynamic indicators and Harman Kardon premium audio are also standard. You can find out more by talking to your local dealership. Pricing will be released closer to launch.
