The new Renault Austral is set to be unveiled on March 8, but before that happens, the French manufacturer has released a teaser of the eye-catching SUV that follows the brand’s new “sensual tech” design language.
Set to be revealed as part of a digital launch event, the artist’s sketch of its interior (in left hand drive), showcases what the car could look like inside. And while exact specifications are yet to be released, we do know quite a bit.
For example, Renault has confirmed that the Austral will be available with both 1.2-litre and 1.3-litre mild hybrid engines, offering as much as 149kW of power. The vehicle will be built on the same platform as the new Nissan Qashqai as well.
We also know it features mammoth rims and aggressive bodylines, as well as the fact that it sports a relatively modest chequered grille. Lateral air inlets and creases along the bonnet also make an appearance, ensuring the Austral is bound to be a head turner.
It bears Renault’s new Nouvel’R emblem, which brings the French marque into a new age of contemporary and minimalist design as well. It also retains the brand’s signature C-shaped headlights, ensuring that this replacement for the Kadjar will be easily identifiable.
The Austral’s proportions give it a spacious, robust and sporty feel, which is reinforced by the rear window’s angle. The protruding tops of the wheel arches give the vehicle structure.
Below, a crease runs across the side then angles down towards the wheel covers, enhancing the structure and dynamism of the silhouette. A polished stainless steel bezel at the top of the side windows adds intensity to the swooping roofline and glass surfaces.
Its availability in Australia is not yet known, nor are local specs or pricing.
