It’s fair to say this writer is a helmet nerd, obsessed with taking care of the lids he wears. That’s not a bad thing given the job we do, testing motorcycles and their related gear. That’s where Motul’s ‘Clean’ products come in.
In this business, we put our helmets through a lot, from overseas launches to adventure bike tests and track days, as well as punching out thousands of kilometres down windy, twisty roads, and long highways.
That means a lot of happy snaps too, which means we need to keep our helmets looking sharp, just like the day they first came out of the box. Motul’s Helmet & Visor Clean and Interior Clean are two products that let you do just that, and we’re impressed.
Pair the first of these with a good micro fibre cloth and it is a simple, hassle free way to keep your helmet and visor looking shiny and new. The Helmet & Visor Clean works a treat, and takes just a few minutes to deliver a streak free finish.
Available in a 250ml spray bottle, it works on all helmet finishes thanks to its neutral and non-aggressive formula. We tested it on dark, tinted and smoked visors too, all with great success.
Regardless of the surface it does a great job of removing grime and dirt without damaging anything. Motul Helmet Interior Clean is like a deodoriser for the inner lining of you lid. Simply spray the interior evenly and let it dry.
It reduces odours and eliminates bacteria in the lining of your helmet, which is especially handy after summer rides, track days or adventure riding, where you tend to sweat a lot. It’s also been dermatologically tested to ensure there is minimum risk to the rider.
We recently used this product straight after the track launch for the Yamaha YZF-R9 and our helmet is smelling a lot better than it was when we arrived home. It’s that good. You can buy these two products in a kit, or separately too.
You can find out more about Motul’s Helmet & Visor Clean and Helmet Interior Clean online, and can purchase by visiting your local stockist. Both products are priced at $18.90 (although price may vary depending on the retailer).
