Mitsubishi has lifted the covers off the new Triton pickup, which is set to arrive down under in early 2024. Featuring the first new design in nine years, the sixth generation of the popular ute was revealed in Thailand.
With a more aggressive look, both inside and out, the “beast mode” inspired Triton now sports a revised Dynamic Shield front face, and is set to be offered in three body types, including double cab, club cab and single cab.
Underneath the fresh face are suspension upgrades, including a 20mm rise in the front control arms for better stability, and a brand new ladder frame, with bending rigidity up 40 per cent and torsional rigidity up 60 per cent.
The engine has been redeveloped, with the new 4N16 clean diesel to be offered at three power levels, with the range topping model to carry the 150kW/470Nm choice. Mid range models will score 135kW and 430Nm, with the entry level offering 110kW and 330Nm.
Drive modes have been expanded, with a mode for every occasion, including Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock (in highest spec models). This is mated to a 4WD-II system that enables 2HL, ALL, 4H, 4HLC, 4LLC (LC is a locking centre diff).

Safety too has been enhanced, with the addition of an active yaw control system that brakes the inner front wheel when cornering, for better performance and more stability on slippery surfaces.
Active stability and traction control are standard on all models, as is hill decent assist and hill start assist. The interior now includes optional orange trim on some models. The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton will be offered in both auto and manual, with six exterior colour choices.
