MG launches next-gen ZS EV at epic event at MCA

Revealed at a funky and edgy event at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, attended by celebrities and featuring DJ Havana Brown, MG has taken the covers of the 2022 MG ZS EV, Australia’s best value electric vehicle.

At launch, the new MG ZS EV will maintain its status as the best value electric vehicle available on the Australian market, with the entry level ‘Excite’ model priced at an unrivalled $44,990 drive away price.

The premium ‘Essence’ model is priced at a competitive $48,990 drive away. Both variants feature a striking exterior makeover, complemented by new battery technology that delivers a range of 320km (up from 263km in the 2021 model).

New on-board charging capabilities mean up to 80 per cent charge can be delivered in as little as 54 minutes, based on a 50kW combined charging system (CCS). The front-mounted charging port remains too, adding to the convenience on offer.

A revised front fascia is paired with LED lighting clusters front and rear also add a striking touch to the mid-sized electric SUV. The new ZS EV will also offer owners its own app-based software architecture, known as iSmart.

Backed by Amazon’s AWS cloud-based system, it will allow owners to perform over-the-air updates, remote AC control and door locking, ‘find my car’ parking search, live weather updates and stream audio from Amazon Music.

The ZS EV also features a 10.1-inch colour touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an upgraded 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster. Keyless entry and sat-nav are also included, and the Essence spec grabs a sunroof and wireless phone charging.

MG Motor ANZ CEO Peter Ciao described the new ZS EV as an improvement in every way, with the new model featuring a more premium look and feel, which aligns with the brand’s new corporate identity.

“This past year has been an incredible year for MG. In 2021, sales of electric vehicles broke records and MG’s 2021 ZS EV led the charge,” he said.

“We have been successful in offering the Australian market unparalleled value and we are now entering a new phase of our growth with the new ZS EV. This is the first step in our new journey to an electric future that’s here today.”

The 2022 MG ZS EV is backed by a 7-year warranty, and is available at all 83 of the car maker’s Australian dealerships. Both the ‘Excite’ and ‘Essence’ models are available in five colours.

These include Brighton Blue Metallic, York White, Pebble Black, Sloane Silver Metallic and Diamond Red Metallic. For more information, visit: If you’re keen on one, and need finance, visit our friends at CreditOne.
