MG has expanded its mid-sized HS SUV range with the introduction of its first all-wheel drive variants for Australia; the Excite X and Essence X, along with its first ever plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offering.
Starting from $37,990 (drive away) and backed by a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty, the MG HS AWD offers a stylish, purposeful, safe and sporty option for customers looking for enhanced dynamic capability from their MG.
The new MG HS AWD features a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, delivering the power needed to support the vehicle’s intelligent all-wheel drive capability. Included as standard is the MG Pilot driver safety technology system.
It provides a comprehensive suite of active and passive driver assistance technologies that complements the driver, lends a helping hand and gives added confidence on the road. Set to arrive in March, it offers 168kW of power and 360Nm of torque.
The powertrain is ably backed by a six-speed twin clutch transmission, and is equipped with Eco, Normal, Sports and Custom driving modes to provide options for whatever situation it encounters.

Paddle shifters and a Super Sports setting also releases maximum torque from the engine to enable better acceleration. LED headlights complete the face of the vehicle while the LED ‘London Eye’ daytime running lights acknowledge its styling influence.
The MG HS AWD is available in five colours, including York White, Phantom Red Metallic,
Surfing Blue Metallic, Black Pearl Metallic and Pearl White Metallic. Inside, it features a leather trimmed steering wheel, metal pedals, and satin chrome highlights.
An electric tailgate is included as standard. The Essence X specification includes a Stargazer panoramic sunroof, a leather interior and sports seats with integrated headrests, front seat heating and electric adjustment for driver and passenger.
With a five-star ANCAP safety rating, the MG HS AWD features autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane assist, intelligent speed assist and headlamp control and traffic jam assist.
The Essence X variant also features rear cross traffic alert, blind spot detection, door opening warning, pedestrian detection and a 360-degree camera.

MG has also launched their first Plug-In Hybrid, combining the best of both worlds, with the new model unites remarkable performance and technology with low-emission practicality.
The MG HS Plug-In Hybrid arrives with drive away pricing of $46,990 and is backed with an 8-year, 160,000-kilometre battery warranty and a 5-year unlimited kilometre vehicle
warranty, providing peace of mind to customers.
A low-emission vehicle with a striking design, the new MG HS Plug-In Hybrid balances
refined features and elegant design with practicality and innovative technology.
Features include a panoramic Stargazer sunroof, 360-degree camera, a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster, 10.1-inch colour touchscreen infotainment system, and heated and electrically adjustable leather sports seats with Alcantara trim.
Included as standard is the MG Pilot driver safety technology system, providing a comprehensive suite of active and passive driver assistance technologies. Equipped with a 52km EV range, the PHEV can reduce emissions by up to 70 per cent.

It has a top speed of 190km/h and dynamic acceleration, which achieves 0-100km in 6.9 seconds. The total power output is 209kW and 480Nm from the pairing of an electric motor and 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine.
The combination is good for an impressive 1.7-litres/100km fuel consumption. As a plug-in hybrid, the model comes equipped with a standard 3-pin home charger, to be
plugged in next to the petrol intake.
Proof of the brand’s burgeoning popularity has been further demonstrated in its entry into the top ten selling car makers in Australia for February 2021.
“We’re humbled to make it into the top 10 automotive manufacturers by sales according to VFACTS, but this is not through our efforts alone,” MG Motor Australia’s CEO Peter Ciao said.
“This is a momentous milestone for MG in Australia – and it’s all because of our customers,” he added.
“MG is built on the premise of listening to our customers first and foremost. Whether it’s about value, or the technology they want in their new car, they are at the forefront of everything we do. Our whole focus is giving value to our customer.”

Hi Heather, we are testing the new PHEV and AWD X variants in the next few weeks, however there isn’t a variant that combines both, that we’re aware of (i.e. an AWD PHEV). As soon as we know more, we’ll announce it here on the website.
