Mercedes-AMG launches hot compact saloon

HOT on the heels of the new Mercedes-AMG A 35 hot hatch, launched at the end of last year, the compact car space has a new performance kid to play with; the 2019 Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC Saloon.

It punches some wicked numbers, including 225kW of power and 400Nm of torque, with a 0-100km/h time of 4.8 seconds, the sleek looking compact sedan features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo engine, mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7G dual-clutch transmission.

AMG suspension and the variable AMG Performance 4MATIC all-wheel drive systems are both on board as well, along with five drive modes and three instrument display modes; including Supersport, which is very much geared for the track.

“Sport saloons are the origin of Mercedes-AMG and part of the brand’s core,” Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers said.

“With our new A 35, we are transporting this history into modern times in the form of a very attractive model that serves as a point of entry into the world of AMG and also appeals to new customer groups.”

The new A 35 4MATIC Saloon also features the AMG DYNAMICS ride and handling management system, the MBUX multimedia system, and optionally, AMG RIDE CONTROL and AMG TRACK PACE.

Other options include the AMG Aerodynamics Package, which adds a larger front splitter and additional flics in high-gloss black, as well as the larger AMG spoiler lip on the rear boot lid, increase the down force.

There’s also an optional AMG Night Package, adding black design elements and insulated dark tint windows from the B-pillar. Australian pricing, availability and specifications will confirmed closer to launch.
