Mercedes-AMG adds new monster to its stable

A new addition to the local Mercedes-AMG line-up, the GT Night Edition, is set to entice and please in equal measures, bringing a significant power boost over the Mercedes-AMG GT it succeeds.

It also has a mouth-watering array of standard equipment and an exceptional list of visual enhancements.

The acclaimed 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 engine at the heart of the eye-catching Mercedes-AMG GT family is boosted to 390kW and 670Nm, an increase of 40kW over the original Mercedes-AMG GT Coupé variant.

In combination with adaptive AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, the enhanced V8 underpins the potential to unleash serious performance and precision in appropriate settings, such as closed track days.

The addition of a lightweight lithium-ion 12-volt battery further adds to the performance emphasis. Acceleration to 100km/h from standstill takes a mere 3.8 seconds. The Mercedes-AMG GT Night Edition creates a new entry point for the GT family in Australia.

The feature-packed list of inclusions adds an exclusive STYLE Nappa leather interior, AMG Performance seats finished with diamond-pattern quilting, AMG Performance steering wheel in black DINAMICA microfibre, and heat-insulating dark tinted glass.

The visually distinctive AMG Interior Night package adds roof lining in DINAMICA microfibre, a ‘Night Edition’ badge on the centre console, and interior ‘piano lacquer’ finishing.

Externally, the GT Night Edition is distinguished by an AMG Exterior Night package, an AMG-specific radiator grille with dark chrome vertical bars, an AMG carbon-fibre roof with dark-tinted side areas, and headlights with black design elements.

Staggered 19/20-inch AMG Y-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in matte black, black brake callipers with the AMG logo in white, and the addition of paint colours Obsidian Black, Selenite Grey or designo Graphite Grey Magno.

The extras that distinguish the GT Night Edition complement an already comprehensive equipment list that includes an AMG Drive unit with AMG DYNAMIC SELECT controller (including RACE Mode), and an AMG instrument cluster.

A 10-speaker Burmester surround sound system, heated and electrically adjustable seats with memory function, and dual-zone climate control complete the package.

A suite of standard safety features includes eight airbags, active brake assist, blind spot assist, lane keep assist, reversing camera, and the PRE-SAFE accident anticipatory system. The car is underpinned by a lightweight aluminium spaceframe.

It’s enhanced by a performance-tuned AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission sending power to the rear wheels, plus an AMG high-performance composite braking system and retractable rear aerofoil.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT Night Edition is available to order now, with first deliveries expected in Q3 of 2021. Pricing for the Mercedes-AMG GT range will start from $294,200 (plus on-roads) for the GT Coupé Night Edition.

Buyers can also purchase the GT C Coupé $341,200 (plus on-roads), the GT C Roadster $367,400 (plus on-roads) or the range topping GT R Coupé $373,400 (plus on-roads). For further information, contact your local Mercedes-AMG dealer.

Mick is a car fanatic, with petrol pumping through his veins. With a deep love for cars, and what makes them tick, Mick likes things that go fast, very fast. But he also appreciates a Sunday cruise in the Rolls...... who are we kidding, he'd drive the wheels off that too.
