Maserati to race in 2023 GT2 European Series Championship

Maserati is set to go racing in the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship, with the iconic MC20 to finally hit the track in anger. For a brand with a long and illustrious history in motor sport, this will be no half baked effort.

Set to be offered to teams in the series, the GT2 version of the MC20 marries the innovative Nettuno engine, double wishbone suspension, semi-virtual steering axis, and the carbon fibre monocoque from the road car.

With more aerodynamics and a stripped-out interior, as well as an FIA-homologated FT3 120-litre fuel tank and FIA-spec fire extinguisher to meet FIA race rules and requirements, there’s little doubt of its connection to the brand’s Project24 track car.

Like its purpose built track-attack sibling, the new GT2 variant will still have air conditioning and comes with optional vehicle assistance technology, like tyre pressure monitoring system, a driving performance display, video recording and a rear-view camera display.

Building on from the past success of its MC12 predecessor and its strong form at the 24-Hours of Spa, where it won three times in 2005, 2006 and 2008, and GT championship campaigns from 2004 to 2012, the MC20 GT2 is built to win.

“We are driven by our passion, both on the road and on the track. We have a long history of world excellence in motorsport, and we are extremely proud to race with the extraordinary MC20,” Maserati CEO David Grasso said.

“Racing has always been Maserati’s natural habitat and now, both in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship and in the Formula E Championship, this brand is making a new start from its roots to build the future.”
