Revealed just a few weeks ago, the new LBX compact crossover has now been confirmed for the Australian market and will make its debut as one of the showcase vehicles at the 2023 Lexus Melbourne Cup in November.
The chic, compact, urban SUV will go on sale locally in the first half of next year and features the latest interpretation of the trademark Lexus spindle body. Inspired by the LS-F concept from 2003, it features a lightweight body.
With a highly rigid chassis and a low centre of gravity, it offers a unique driving experience. Powered by an efficient 1.5-litre inline three-cylinder hybrid powertrain, it delivers responsive performance and outstanding fuel economy.
It features a compact and lightweight transaxle with enhanced motor output and nickel-metal hydride battery. This same powertrain is used for both front-drive and all-wheel drive variants.
The LBX’s appearance during Melbourne Cup week will resonate with the contingent of youthful and fashionable racegoers among the huge crowds once again expected to pour into Flemington Racecourse.
“The Lexus Melbourne Cup showcases all that is stylish, sophisticated and refined, which also speaks to our range of Lexus vehicles,” Lexus Australia CEO John Pappas said.
“The LBX, in particular, shows that luxury is not defined by vehicle size. It looks, feels and drives like a Lexus should. It introduces levels of sophistication and refined quality rarely seen in a car this size, but nevertheless expected by premium buyers.”
Lexus will confirm the local LBX line-up and pricing early next year. Further details of other vehicles to be showcased at the Melbourne Cup Carnival are expected to be announced shortly.
