Kia unveils next-gen Niro ahead of full launch later in year

The next-generation Kia Niro combines innovation and high-tech user convenience to deliver a step change in sustainable mobility. It is set to launch in Australia in the latter half of this year.

At the heart of the new Niro’s eco-friendly credentials are a trio of state-of-the-art electrified powertrains, comprising hybrid electric (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery electric (BEV) options.

The new model is based on the third-generation platform, and will benefit from a larger body that realises class-leading interior space and storage capacity. Premium and eco-friendly materials combine to create a minimalist avant-garde feel too.

Modern digital displays and interior controls have been optimally placed to further enhance the user-friendly operating experience. For the hybrids, a highly-efficient Smartstream 1.6-litre GDI engine will feature.

As part of the range update, it gains improved cooling, friction and combustion technologies. The powerplant ensures highly competitive fuel efficiency, with the  Niro HEV capable of achieving 4.8-litres/100km.

Exceptional safety performance has been made possible as well, by extensive cutting-edge ADAS technologies and new high-strength body. Advanced connectivity and convenience features have also been added to create an intuitive, calming and stress-free space.

“The all-new Kia Niro heralds the next step in our journey to become a sustainable mobility solutions provider,” Kia’s senior VP and head of global brand and customer experience, Artur Martins said.

“From the outset, our ambition was to create a car that makes it easier for people to practice a sustainable lifestyle. With its eco-friendly materials, advanced technology and range of highly efficient electrified powertrains, the all-new Niro truly delivers on its goal.”

Sales of the new Kia Niro HEV will commence in Korea this month, with sales in selected global markets, including Australia, due to follow later this year. Pricing and final specifications will be announced closer to its arrival down under.
