JAC uses Mt Disappointment to finalise T9 Ute testing

Every ute maker in Australia knows that our unique off road terrain and varying road surfaces means a local setup is an absolute must. JAC Motors is no different, with the Chinese car maker undertaking rigorous testing of its T9 down under.

First revealed at a recent launch event, the T9 Ute will be available in two trim levels, Oasis and Haven, and will come with a 3,500kg braked towing capacity, 1,000kg payload, a spray-in tub liner and part-time 4WD (2H, 4H and 4L).

Powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine paired with a smooth automotive transmission, the T9 produces 125kW of power and 410Nm of torque at a fuel-efficient 7.6-litres/100km. It has four drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow).

“When we first looked at launching JAC Motors in Australia, we knew local testing would be incredibly important due to our harsh climate and rough conditions,” deputy managing director at JAC Motors, Danny Lenartic said.

“We first commenced local testing for the JAC T9 Ute in Q4 of last year with six vehicles being put through their paces across multiple scenarios on and off road,” he added.

“Mt Disappointment in Victoria is a great example. It’s the perfect place to explore how the JAC T9 Ute might be utilised by a weekend adventurer seeking to escape Melbourne’s bustling city life. Off road enthusiasts know just how challenging the tracks on Mt Disappointment can be, and the ute performed brilliantly.”

JAC Motors has also opened its first two dealerships, in Ringwood and Frankston in Melbourne, ahead of the T9 Ute’s local arrival. An expected 50 locations will open over the coming months.
