It’s back! Ford Ranger FX4 special edition to return in 2020

FORD is officially bringing back the FX4 name plate in 2020, with news that next year’s Ranger line up will include the return of the popular beefed up special edition of Australia’s second highest selling ute.

Based on the highly equipped Ranger XLT dual-cab 4×4, and sitting between that model and the Wildtrak 4×4, the FX4 will feature unique design elements inside and out for a fresh take on the Ranger’s renowned versatility.

On the outside, a new Ebony Black mesh grille and a darkened Bi-LED high performance lighting system will make the limited edition model instantly recognisable, while exclusive 18-inch mesh alloy wheels will enhance the package.

FX4 branding will also feature prominently, and a model-specific extended sports bar will provide a greater visual presence. There’s plenty to see inside too, including special leather-accented seating with Race Red stitching.

That stitching extends to the steering wheel, gear selector and padded, premium soft-touch instrument panel, providing an impactful contrast with the cabin’s darker interior finishes.

In addition to the FX4-specific appointments, the limited edition model also features SYNC 3 with voice-activated sat-nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a full-colour reversing camera and digital instrumentation.

Driver assist technologies include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane keep assist and lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition and automatic high beam headlights.

For drivers who want even more technology, the Ranger XLT’s optional Tech Pack can also be chosen for FX4, bringing adaptive cruise control and semi-auto parallel parking.

The Ranger FX4 special edition will initially be limited to around 1,000 units and arrives in showrooms this December with a 5-year unlimited kilometre full factory warranty and the Ford Service Benefits program bundled in.

The program is designed to keep your Ranger FX4 on the road longer, with long 15,000km/12-month service intervals, with A and B log-book services for the first four years/60,000km set at a maximum of $299 per service.

It also includes roadside assist, a service loan car, and map updates for the SYNC 3 SatNav included in the infotainment system. The Ford Ranger has a 5-star ANCAP safety rating. Pricing will be confirmed closer the launch date.
