Isuzu unveils 2025 MU-X SUV range; adds X-Terrain

Isuzu Ute Australia has taken the covers off the updated 2025 MU-X SUV range, adding a new top-tier variant in the form of an X-Terrain. Exhaust Notes Australia was at the reveal as part of a media launch in Queensland.

Available to order from local Isuzu Ute dealers from 1 March 2025, the 2025 MU-X will be the Japanese marque’s most comprehensive SUV lineup to date, with the range starting with the LS-M 1.9-litre 4×2 at just $46,990 drive away.

It tops out with the X-Terrain 3.0-litre 4×4 at $73,990 drive away. Drawing from the last four years of real-world consumer and media feedback, the significant facelift update refines the already popular 7-seat large SUV even further.

That includes new contemporary geometric and aeronautical cues across the exterior. Inside, the 7-seater sees updates by way of new upholstery trims and accents, and an updated 4.2-inch or new 7.0-inch digital multi-information display.

A new 8.0-inch or 9.0-inch infotainment system (depending on variant) features wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On road, ride and handling has been improved with the introduction of new locally tested and validated suspension.

Isuzu’s comprehensive safety suite sees the most significant hardware upgrade since its introduction in 2021, with new stereo cameras, a 360-degree surround view system on the LS-T and X-Terrain, and refinements to the array of standardised active safety features.

An expansive choice of ten models comprises four different grades, available with either the 110kW/350Nm 1.9-litre or 140kW/450Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, paired with a 4×2 or 4×4 six-speed automatic drivetrain.

It’s the range topping newcomer that’s attracted the most attention though, and while we can’t tell you what it, or the rest of the range is like to drive just yet, we can tell you that the new variant has a bold, more aggressive look, highlighted by striking 20-inch wheels.

Built on the strengths of the LS-T 4×4, it features a unique take on Isuzu’s signature double horizontal line grille design, with fog light surrounds and fender flares finished in gloss black.

Continuing with the black and sporty design, trims and accents that would ordinarily be magnetite, chrome or grey are also finished in gloss black. Lower body skirts across the sides and rear add to the muscular aesthetic.

A set of embossed ‘XT’ badges adorn both fenders, grille and tailgate, which not only complete the look, but gives the X-Terrain an unmistakable point of difference from the rest of the range.

To be offered in a choice of four achromatic finishes: Moonstone White pearl, Mercury Silver metallic, Basalt Black mica and the new exclusive Slate Grey metallic, there’s plenty to like about it.

Inside, it’s a familiar black and red affair; a nod to the D-MAX version, with the entire cabin bathed in the same red hue via ambient lighting across the doors, footwells and dashboard. The multi-information display scores its own theme too.

Other highlights across the range include improved body control and stability on mid-to-high speed roads and corrugations. There’s new wheels on all models (save for the LS-M, which retains the same 17-inch six-spoke alloys with all-terrain tyres).

Improved aerodynamic efficiency, and now cavernous storage of up to 2,138-litres with the second and third row folded completely flat. LS-M and LS-U models feature an updated high-grade cloth with vertical wave patterns.

LS-T and X-Terrain models are as luxurious as they come, with perforated leather-accented seats, which are variably heated and electrically adjustable across the front row. All models grab USB-C connectivity, voice recognition and DAB+ digital radio.

That’s alongside wired and wireless smartphone connectivity (as already mentioned). With off-road enthusiasts in mind, an inclinometer, and Terrain Command 4×4 drive modes have been integrated into the infotainment system.

Keeping things simple and addressing commonly received functionality and usability feedback, a pair of tuning and volume dials have been added and warning messages automatically clear after a few seconds.

Off road capability remains, with generous ground clearance of up to 235mm, a wading depth of 800mm and extensive underbody protection. Selectable dual-range 4WD, rough terrain mode and a rear differential lock all feature.

Intelligent adaptive cruise control now features, and is joined by updated lane keep assist, new traffic jam assist and rear cross traffic brake, a welcome headlight, digital reverse camera, and 360-degree surround view monitor on LS-T and X-Terrain.

In terms of colours, the LS-M is available in Mineral White, Mercury Silver metallic, Obsidian Grey metallic, Neptune Blue mica, Basalt Black mica and Magnetic Red mica. LS-U and LS_T can be had in the same colours, as well as Moonstone White Pearl.
