Isuzu MU-X gets a refresh for 2023

Officially on sale from December 1, the 2023 Isuzu MU-X has scored a raft of updates. The best bit though is the fact the LS-T 4×4 will keep the same $65,990 drive away price as the outgoing model.

The MU-X seven-seat SUV, a high-riding, dual-range 4WD, with 3.5-tonne braked towing capacity, heads into the new year with a bolder, darker aesthetic, and a new colour in the form of Galaxy Blue Mica.

Available in three grades; LS-M, LS-U, and LS-T, in either 4×2 or selectable 4×4, the 2023 Isuzu MU-X is powered by a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine generating 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque.

Proving that base-models don’t necessarily need to be sparse, the LS-M scores new six spoke 17-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain rubber, LED rear combination lights with dark grey accents, and a simplified towing setup.

Like the rest of next year’s range, the LS-M will automatically disable the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert driver aids when a trailer is hitched and detected via the genuine trailer wiring harness plug.

Stepping up to the MU-X LS-U adds tyre pressure monitoring, and Magnetite exterior highlights. The dark grey shade is used across the grille, fog light trims, sidesteps, roof rails and rear bumper.

Similar touches of Magnetite can be found inside the cabin; across the dashboard and door trims. Adding a touch of additional functionality, Isuzu designers have introduced a handsfree tailgate system on the LS-U and LS-T.

This allows the key bearer to open the rear tailgate by walking towards it and taking a step back. The tailgate can then be closed via the handsfree tailgate sensor, or at the push of a button on the dash, tailgate itself, or via the smart key.

The flagship MU-X LS-T continues to headline the range by combining a lavish piano black and leather-accented interior trim with a bold exterior design, with additional Magnetite treatment across the lower front bumper.

A new set of 20-inch machined alloy wheels add a more distinguished aesthetic. Pricing starts at $48,900 for the MU-X LS-M 4×2, with the popular LS-U 4×4 at $61,400 (both plus on-roads), while the range topping MU-X LS-T 4×4 is $65,990 drive away.

You can choose from Mineral White, Basalt Black Mica, Galaxy Blue Mica, Mercury Silver metallic, Obsidian Grey metallic, Moonstone White Pearl (LS-U and LS-T only), Magnetic Red Mica and Cobalt Blue Mica.

  1. I have one in Thailand, 2 weeks old. Same spec and colour as above (Ultimate model in Thailand). Be warned about those new 20″ alloys. I am getting terrible steering vibration and the dealer hasn’t fixed after 2 attempts. I am going back next week for the final time. If they don’t fix it then I will reject. The ride is also really firm, I don’t think the suspension is up to the job for those 20″ alloys. I have no idea how Isuzu passed this spec when doing their R&D. This has turned into a nightmare for me. Be warned!
