Isuzu launches 2019 MU-X and D-MAX; reveals X-Runner

THE X-Runner is back. Isuzu Ute’s popular limited edition 4×4 pickup has returned for 2019, having last made an appearance some two years ago; revealed as part of the launch of the updated 2019 MU-X and D-MAX ranges.

Based on the Isuzu D-MAX 4×4 LS-T, the X-Runner will be limited to just 645 units, available in just two colours including an exclusive Pearl White and Magnetic Red, and will hit the road at $54,990 drive away.

The X-Runner inherits key components usually reserved to the LS-T, including a six-way electric driver’s seat, leather accented interior, passive entry and start, and its exclusive 3-litre turbo diesel engine.

Generating 430Nm of torque, the power plant is matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A range of exterior styling tweaks have also been added to the X-Runner, including significant branding on the bonnet, doors, rear quarter and tailgate.

Matching the striking look are a host of genuine accessories, such as an under rail tub liner, a satin black sports bar, and a rear park assist package.

The red and black styling continues inside, with X-Runner scuff plates, piano black finishes and red badging. The leather-accented seats inherited from the D-MAX LS-T have also received a unique finish; trimmed with red perforated leather.

Like all new Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X models, the X-Runner comes with a 6-year warranty, six years of roadside assist and seven years of capped price servicing. The D-MAX LS-T on which the X-Runner is based has also had a refresh.

As part of a full upgrade of the range, the new look LS-T gets 18-inch machined-faced matte black aluminium wheels, new sidesteps and touches of matte black to the roof rails and body to accentuate the muscular look the D-MAX is renowned for.

The MU-X gets a face lift too, as well as some interior updates. Among the changes is re-calibrated steering, marking a bid by Isuzu Ute to move away from the heavy steering that has long been associated with the MU-X.

Other changes include a more aggressive grey and black front grille, on the LS-M models and in chrome and gloss black on LS-U and LS-T models, and 18-inch machined-faced gloss black aluminium wheels on the latter two models.

The new-look wheels are completed with road-biased 255/60R18 Bridgestone Dueler highway terrain tyres. Inside, the 2019 MU-X interior now features lashings of piano black trim touches across the range and new ambient lighting in the LS-T.

On the safety front, blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are available as an optional extra, as is front park assist (which is also available on the D-MAX), with all new models are available from today.

Pricing for the refreshed D-MAX ute range starts at $33,690 drive away for a 4×2 space cab, with the 4×4 pickups starting from $39,990. The 2019 Isuzu Ute MU-X kicks off at $39,990 in 4×2 spec and $45,990 in 4×4 trim.
