FASHION house Dior has joined forces with Vespa to create an exclusive scooter and a range of matching accessories, designed to celebrate the art of living. The new model will be known as the Vespa 946 Christian Dior.
The Italian motorcycle scooter brand and the Parisian house of couture were both founded in 1946, with 2021 marking the 75th anniversary of the two iconic brands, both of which represent the spirit of freedom, in their own way.
A homage to the original Vespa 946 that was presented at EICMA 2012 and launched in 2013, which itself paid tribute to the Vespa prototype MP6 produced in 1946, the new model features Dior branding and custom colours.
Details such as the handlebars, which feature trim hand sewn trim, manually fitted aluminium parts, a monocoque steel body, all built on a dedicated production line, make the Vespa 946’s creation more like an haute couture atelier.
At its heart is a single cylinder 125cc 4-stroke, 3-valve, air cooled engine with electronic injection. It’s an extremely modern engine, offering reduced fuel consumption and a dramatic reduction of gaseous and noise emissions.
The color of the Vespa 946 Christian Dior body is an exclusive color made together with the Dior creative department, as well as the gold color for the finishing touches. The saddle is in real blue-leather with ton sur ton seams.
The handles are covered with blue-leather and the seams are ton sur ton. The saddle support is realized with a Dior Monogram original fabric upholstery, with the entire package designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior women’s collection.
On the right side of the vehicle there are some exclusive decals with the Christian Dior Paris logo, while the left side can be personalised. The hook placed under the saddle also has an exclusive Christian Dior logo.
Echoing the design of the saddle, a top case patterned with the Dior Oblique motif is specially designed to be fixed on the luggage rack, adding a distinctive allure. A helmet adorned with the same iconic motif rounds out the unique range.
The new Vespa 946 Christian Dior will launch in quarter two next year, and will be sold in Dior boutiques around the world, as well as Vespa dealerships.
