GWM adds Cannon-XSR to sit atop Ute range

GWM has announced a new range topping variant for its popular Ute range, with the unveiling of the tough and rugged Cannon-XSR. Building on the solid foundations of the brand’s dual cab, it adds off-road functionality and a new design.

A part-time 4WD system with selectable 2WD and 4WD (high and low), with front and rear locking differentials, has been chosen to provide enhanced operation in tougher off-road conditions. Crawl mode and turn assist by braking make their debut as well.

A passive front stabiliser has also been added to further enhance handling in the most extreme conditions, while an underbody chassis guard and unique fender guards play their part in offering the best possible exterior protection.

Another important part in delivering an improved off-road experience is the combination of a new rugged 18-inch alloy wheel design (finished in black), mated to a 265/65 R18 All-Terrain tyre. Red brake callipers add another design cue unique to the Cannon-XSR.

The powertrain remains the same as the rest of the GWM Ute range, with a 2.0 litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a ZF 8-speed transmission. Additional exterior upgrades include a new front grille treatment, a longer sports bar and a snorkel.

The front and rear bumpers are both steel, while a sunroof is now also available, and makes its Ute debut on the Cannon-XSR. Inside, a 9.0-inch LCD touchscreen infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also features, along with wireless charging.

It’s priced at $51,490 drive away for ABN holders. Private buyers can pick one up for $52,990 drive away, and you can choose from Pearl White, Crystal Black, Pittsburgh Silver, Sapphire Blue and Scarlet Red.

Safety technology includes seven airbags, autonomous emergency braking and forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist and lane centre keep, as well as adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and tyre pressure monitoring.

Like all GWM products, the new Cannon-XSR is backed by a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty, 5-years roadside assistance and 5-years capped price servicing. If you’re keen on one and need finance, talk to CreditOne.
