Ford has announced pricing and specifications for the plug-in hybrid version of its Ranger ute, ahead of its Australian launch mid-2025. It will consist of four variants at launch, including an XLT, Sport, Wildtrak and a special launch edition known as the Stormtrak.
These will be priced at $71,990, $75,990, $79,990 and $86,990 – all plus on-roads, respectively. All variants combine a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine with a 75kW electric motor (e-motor) and 11.8kWh (usable) battery.
The combination allows the Ranger to maintain its 3,500kg braked towing capacity and will deliver combined outputs of 207kW and 697Nm. A new modular hybrid transmission allows for a range of hybrid and EV modes.
The system also incorporates regenerative braking, which is activated by decelerating (either releasing the accelerator pedal, or applying the brake), and can be observed through the EV Coach in the driver cluster screen.
The Ranger PHEV carries over the full-time 4WD system first introduced with the 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel, and utilises an electronically controlled on-demand 2-speed transfer case. This system offers 2H, 4A, 4H, and 4L. It also features a locking rear differential.
Combined fuel economy is a claimed 2.9-litres/100km from the 70-litre tank, with four EV-specific drive modes available. The Ford Ranger PHEV range features a payload of 973kg for the XLT, 934kg for the Sport, 885kg for the Wildtrak and 808kg for the Stormtrak.
Pro Power Onboard will also feature, and offers a single 10-amp, 2.3kW socket in the cabin, and twin 15-amp, 3.45kW sockets in the tray. It’s capable of providing energy to worksite equipment, campsites, or even a caravan directly from the Ranger PHEV.
The first-ever hybrid Ranger brings with it several unique changes, including an electronic fuel filler release, a charging port, wider wheels and a bespoke tyre, as well as an acoustic vehicle alert system. It has an EV-only range of 49km.
Optional extras include all-terrain tyres, a flexible rack system, vinyl floor, a technology pack and an adventure pack. Paint options include Iconic Silver, Carbonised Grey, Lucid Red, Blue Lightning, Agate Black and Cyber Orange (only available on Wildtrak).
Chill Grey is only available on the Stormtrak while Frozen White is the only standard colour. Further information is available from the Ford Australia website, or by talking to your local dealership.
