Five WFX-1 Evo WP Gloves (product review)

It’s no secret that we’re fans of the handy work of the Five Gloves brand, having given their summer offering a big thumps up. The chance to test their WFX-1 Evo WP winter offering then, was a no brainer.

New for 2024, and designed specifically for the chilly months, the WFX-1 Evo WP gloves combine the benefits of leather with the technical capabilities of synthetic materials. This product test was going to be a bit of a challenge though.

You see, this writer has an aversion to winter hand coverings. In the past, we’ve found them to be thick, lacking in throttle and brake feel, and sometimes, downright annoying. As a result, we’ve tended to go with mid-season gloves and heated grips.

You can throw all that animosity towards winter gloves out the window though, when it comes to the WFX-1 Evo. These are good, and just to be sure they were, we tested them on everything from touring BMWs, Harley-Davidson’s and naked Yamaha sports bikes.

It’s been a hell of a chilly time too, at least here in NSW, and in reality a quality set of winter gloves has been a prerequisite to get out and about on two wheels. That’s where the Five offerings have come in mighty handy.

Like other Five Gloves we’ve tested, the fit is excellent. Of course, that will be different for some riders, but it seems like this brand in particular has worked hard to find the comfort point for most people.

The WFX-1 Evo’s are waterproof, and feel great as you slip your hands inside. They’re toasty warm thanks to a synthetic fur lining in the top half of the glove, and feature Primaloft thermal insulation (a water resistant, down-like fill that captures natural heat).

This is designed to create a thermal barrier against ambient riding temperatures and assist in the process of keeping your mitts warm. The palms of the glove is made from goat leather, and is paired with stretch fabrics to provide rider comfort and manoeuvrability.

A one-piece Ergo ProTech shell is concealed under the fabric to ensure added safety and protection, should the worst occur. There are also two points for fastening the glove that work a treat on the wrist, as well as a zipper on the cuff.

The latter is handy for adjusting your gloves over your jacket sleeves. In addition, the Five WFX-1 Evo WP Gloves have touchscreen compatible finger points, with a clear vision pad on the left hand that can be utilised for cleaning screens.

Available from all good motorcycle accessory stockists, the Five WFX-1 Evo WP Gloves come in sizes from Small to 3XL, and are priced from $199.95. They’re the perfect winter glove for those who don’t want the investment or hassle of heated units.
