DriRider Apex 2 Waterproof Gloves (product review)

Warm, waterproof and comfortable – DriRider’s Apex 2 gloves are the perfect mid-weight offering to keep you toasty throughout the year. Importantly, they’re also affordable, at just $79.95.

Available in just one colour, Black, these gloves have a premium cowhide leather exterior, with a waterproof and breathable HIPORA lining. The dual layer palm is reinforced with DuPont Kevlar fibre-based fabric.

Keprotec knuckle and padded wrist protection both feature on the Apex 2 gloves, with the all-seasons touring offering also sporting elasticised leather panels for enhanced flexibility and improved comfort.

A Velcro wrist closure ensures you can lock them in nice and tight. They have a press stud to keep them together when you’re not wearing them. In a cool touch, both forefingers feature a suede panel for cleaning your helmet visor.

DriRider Apex 2 Waterproof Gloves

These were our first pair of motorcycle gloves as a new rider, and were chosen as part of a shopping trip to buy affordable “entry-level” gear. They fit the bill, as it were, and have been impressive throughout this writer’s first 15 months of riding.

There are very few downsides to the Apex 2 from DriRider, but what you will notice is that they’re a little too warm in the hotter summer months. That’s mostly thanks to their thickness and that lining, with the upside being that the internal covering absorbs sweat.

Hot hands aside, the inner lining is also not attached to the finger ends, so you’ll inevitably find yourself trying to jam one of your fingers (usually the pinky) through a twisted inner lining to get the gloves on properly. It doesn’t happen every time, but it will frustrate you.

Those small issues aside, in the time we’ve been testing them, they’ve been genuinely hard-wearing (showing minimal signs of wear, even now) and have certainly proved their worth for a glove that costs just under $80 to own.

If you’re in the market for affordable gloves you can wear all-year round (in reality probably 85 per cent of the calendar, with a pair of lighter summer gloves for those really hot days), it’s hard to go past these.

You can find out more about Apex 2 gloves from you local DriRider stockist, or by visiting their website.

Pros – comfortable gloves; well priced; warm and waterproof.

Cons – overly toasty in summer; lining moves around when taking gloves on and off.
