BYD has expanded its local lineup with the introduction of the Seal 6 range, a Sedan and Touring pairing built around the company’s latest Dual Mode (DM) 5.0 Super Hybrid technology.
The brand says the new models are designed specifically for local driving conditions, including the ability to travel “beyond 1,000km on Australian roads on a single tank and fully‑charged battery”.
The Seal 6 Sedan arrives in Essential grade from $34,990 before on‑roads, while the Seal 6 Touring launches exclusively in Premium from $39,990. Both models share BYD’s ocean‑inspired design language, including “Deep Sea Eyes” LED headlights.
The Sedan emphasises a classic three‑box silhouette and achieves an ultra‑low drag coefficient of 0.255 through a suite of aerodynamic features such as an active air intake grille and semi‑concealed door handles.
The Touring adapts the same design principles to a taller, more versatile wagon form, achieving a competitive drag coefficient of 0.284. Both body styles sit on a 2,790mm wheelbase and offer class‑leading dimensions, contributing to a spacious cabin.
Inside, the Seal 6 adopts a wraparound cockpit with an 8.8‑inch digital cluster and 12.8‑inch central touchscreen, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Touring adds heated and ventilated synthetic‑leather front seats with driver memory and a panoramic sunroof.
Cargo capacity ranges from 491-litres (Sedan) to 670-litres (Touring), expanding to 1,370-litres and 1,535-litres respectively with seats folded. The Seal 6 powertrain pairs a 1.5‑litre Atkinson‑cycle engine with BYD’s LFP Blade Battery.
Outputs are 130kW for the Sedan Essential and 163kW for the Touring Premium. The former uses a 10kWh battery for 55km WLTP electric‑only range, while the Touring’s 19kWh pack delivers 100km WLTP.
Both variants have been tested locally and achieved more than 1,000km on a full tank and charge. On the safety front, a full ADAS suite includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, blind spot detection, lane departure assist and child presence detection.
