BMW X2 Edition GoldPlay set to bring additional lustre to local line-up in Q2

The BMW X2 Edition GoldPlay will bring new levels of style and individuality when it arrives in Australia for local deliveries later this year.

The new model combines exclusive exterior and interior appointments and will be available locally in both the BMW X2 sDrive 20i – which already comes as standard with the M Sport X Package – and the 225kW X2 M35i.

The styling extravagance that marks out the special-edition X2 is headlined by the use of the Galvanic Gold shade for the kidney grille surround and exterior mirror caps.

Eye-catching inserts in Galvanic Gold also adorn the 20-inch M aerodynamic wheels, which will be fitted as standard on both models bound for Australia.

Availability of San Remo Green metallic and Skyscraper Grey for Edition GoldPlay marks the first time these exterior colours have been available for the BMW X2.

Australian customers will also be able to option their X2 Edition GoldPlay in Black Sapphire, Alpine White and BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic.

The Galvanic Gold side foliation on the doors and the front and rear side panels are another unique addition.

Customers can also opt to remove Galvanic Gold exterior elements from their X2 Edition GoldPlay if they wish, while all of these aspects are replaced by black and body colour when BMW Individual Frozen Black metallic is optioned.

M-specific equipment aspects combine with innovative details to create a sporty ambience inside the BMW X2 Edition GoldPlay.

The M leather steering wheel with multifunction buttons, anthracite-coloured headliner, M stainless steel pedals and car key with distinctive M identifier underscore the sporting instincts of the special edition.

Accents such as door sill strips that have a surface structure derived from the BMW kidney grille’s mesh design and carry “Edition” lettering in Galvanic Gold create a stylistic connection with the exterior design.

The Dark Graphite matt trim strips around the instrument panel on the front passenger side of the cabin – similarly a bespoke design for the Edition GoldPlay – display a graphic referencing the exterior foliation.

A laser engraving technique, which applies the graphic in the colour Golden Mica metallic on the surface of the trim strip and seals it with clear varnish, is adopted here for the first time.

M sport seats with prominent side bolsters and integral head restraints for the driver and front passenger are trimmed in Dakota leather trim for the special edition model.

The black leather surfaces of the driver’s seat and front passenger seat are perforated through the centre section of the backrests. Contrast stitching and piping in Giallo Oro – a golden yellow colour shade – add a distinctive flourish.

In addition, the M sport seats also feature a high-gloss black border for the cut-out below the head restraints and a BMW M logo label on the backrest piping.

The special edition model also comes with gold-coloured contrast stitching for the instrument panel, centre console, and outer and centre armrests of the front seats. The edge binding for the anthracite-coloured floor mats is additionally in Giallo Oro.

The new interior and exterior features of the special edition complement powerful and efficient powertrains and extensive standard specification offerings.

The X2 sDrive20i comes as standard with the M Sport X Package and a TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 141kW of power and 280Nm of torque. It puts its power to the ground via a seven-speed Steptronic Sport transmission with dual clutch while riding on M Sport suspension.

The X2 M35i features a M TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder petrol engine producing 225kW and 450Nm, which, combined with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission and xDrive all-wheel-drive, achieves the standard sprint in just 4.9-seconds.

The specific design and equipment features of the BMW X2 Edition GoldPlay enhance the premium character of the compact Sports Activity Coupé to striking effect.

The standard equipment list on X2 models is extensive and includes items such as LED headlights with extended contents, automatic tailgate operation, two-zone automatic climate control and a lighting package (including outside door handle light, ground lighting, exterior mirror lighting and door entry light, plus an “X2” logo projection from the driver’s side exterior mirror).

Comfort, safety and driving pleasure are further boosted by cruise control with brake function, park distance control with sensors at the rear, collision warning with city braking function, speed limit display with no-overtaking indicator, the iDrive control system with freestanding 10.25-inch touchscreen display and the full-colour BMW head-up display.

Pricing and full specification for the BMW X2 Edition GoldPlay will be announced in the lead up to launch.
