BMW has refreshed its entry level R 1300 GS Adventure, with the revised model set to arrive down under in early 2025. To be priced from $30,490 plus on-roads, it builds on a near two decade legacy.
With its iconic flat twin boxer engine, the GS has been the quintessential choice for long-distance motorcycle journeys, accommodating both a passenger and ample luggage. That powerplant has now been extensively redesigned.
Likewise, the chassis, bodywork, and storage concept on the R 1300 GS Adventure have been reworked, to make it more user friendly, with the engine once more the centrepiece of the new model.
The transmission is no longer located behind the engine, but rather underneath it. There is also a new arrangement of the camshaft drive, both of which work harmoniously to allow the R 1300 GS Adventure to generate 107kW of power and 149Nm of torque.
A new dynamic suspension system supersedes the previous ESA setup, and combines the adjustment of the front and rear damping with a corresponding spring rate – depending on the selected riding modes, riding conditions and manoeuvres.

With optional adaptive vehicle height control, the new R 1300 GS Adventure offers fully automatic adjustment to suit the operating conditions, allowing it to be lowered by 30mm when stationary, and at low speeds.
It can also be fitted with an additional comfort system for smaller riders, or for particularly good accessibility and even easier handling. This reduces the standard height by 20mm. Four riding modes feature, including Rain, Eco, Road and Enduro.
The first three of these are as they might sound, with the latter providing an enhanced off-road riding experience, with a tailored setup that cater towards tackling unpaved terrain. The new Adventure model will also feature the automation of the clutch and gear shift.
The automated shift assistant system doesn’t sacrifice the emotionally important dynamics of the gear change, but instead makes the riding experience an easier one. An attractive full LED headlamp with a novel, distinctive light icon is now standard.
The light consists of one LED unit for low and high beam, along with four additional LED units for the daytime running lights and side lighting. It also features two extra-flat auxiliary LED headlamps that blend harmoniously and safely into the bodywork.

LED turn indicators are integrated in the hand protectors at the front. Already equipped with dynamic cruise control, with braking, a new optional riding assistant adds active cruise control, front collision warning and lane change warning.
The final key component of the R 1300 GS Adventure is its 30-litre sheet aluminium fuel tank, which has the added bonus of providing frontal weather protection. A large windshield, with two large transparent wind deflectors, also minimises wind.
For those looking to make the bike their own, you can also opt for a robust 37-litre aluminium top case and holder, with an electrical interface for lighting and USB charging socket, as well as integrated passenger grab handles for your new R 1300 GS Adventure.
