BMW launches powerhouse new M550i xDrive sedan

A new powerhouse model variant has been added to the 5 Series range, with BMW set to launch the M550i xDrive sports sedan, offering 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque from its fire breathing TwinPower turbocharged V8.

All weather traction capability is provided by the highly sophisticated, rear drive biased and variable BMW xDrive system, with the 4.4-litre engine aboard the M550i xDrive featuring two twin scroll turbochargers for unrelenting power and a loud, evocative note.

All this grunt will see the M550i accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds, with the power plant mated to the latest generation 8-speed steptronic sport automatic transmission, with wider gear ratios and intelligent electronic management.

The M550i xDrive matches the high level of driver appeal and capability with peerless refinement, build quality and a luxury interior that boasts outstanding craftsmanship and cabin ambiance.

Two variants will be offered, beginning with the Pure, to provide customers maximum choice, while still delivering identical performance characteristics and supreme road holding, with specific tuning courtesy of BMW M.

The M550i xDrive Pure includes an extensive list of standard dynamic and luxury specification elements including 20-inch M light alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, adaptive M suspension, an M aerodynamics package, and M Sport differential.

Inside, there’s a fine wood interior trim, sport seats, BMW live cockpit professional, head-up display, driving assistant plus and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. The second variant is simply known as the M550i xDrive.

It adds adaptive M suspension professional, with active anti-roll stabilisation and integral active steering, BMW laserlight headlights, soft-close doors, a leather BMW Individual instrument panel, and ambient air, including air ionisation.

It also scores a sunroof and metallic paintwork, while both versions feature distinctive exterior appointments finished in Cerium Grey, such as the kidney grille and mirror caps, to provide a bold and commanding road presence.

An Innovations Package is available, which adds the BMW display key, remote control parking and gesture control, while rear seat entertainment, massaging front seats and a TV function can be added with the Indulgence Package.

A range of paint and interior colour options are also available for customers wishing to personalise the M550i xDrive to suit their tastes. The M550i xDrive Pure will arrive in Q1 of 2020, followed by the M550i xDrive in Q2, 2020.
