BMW Australia is set to provide customers further choice in the premium compact sedan segment with launch of the new 220i Gran Coupé. The new model joins the 218i and M235i xDrive that arrived in Australia in February.
Providing an engaging new mid-range option, it features a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo power plant producing 141kW and 280Nm, while retaining the same specification level as the 218i.
The difference is a 7-speed double clutch Steptronic Sport transmission with steering wheel mounted shift paddles to complement the engine. It features the same high level of specification, including the M Sport package.
The combination ensures the 220i is competitively positioned in the market, while delivering a high level of signature BMW driving pleasure. Driving dynamics can be further tweaked with the optional adaptive suspension system.
Standard specification highlights of the new model include an M Sport multi-function leather steering wheel, sport seats, cloth/Sensatec upholstery, BMW Individual headliner in anthracite, and 18-inch M Light alloy double spoke wheels.
Safety is also key, with the 220i grabbing BMW’s Driving Assistant package, including lane departure warning, lane change warning, approach control warning with city-braking intervention, and rear cross traffic warning.
There’s also rear collision prevention, a head-up display, automatic parking assistant, a rear view camera and reversing assistant. On the inside, it features the latest BMW Live Cockpit Professional system as well.
This includes a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and identically sized infotainment system, with intelligent personal assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and phone charging, ambient interior lighting and exterior BMW Logo projection on the driver’s side.
The BMW 220i Gran Coupé will be priced from $53,990 plus on-roads, with local deliveries set to commence in quarter three of this year. Further information is available from your local BMW dealer, or by visiting www.bmw.com.au
