RIDING shirts are becoming increasingly popular among motorcyclists, especially during the heat of the Australian summer. With this in mind, we grabbed a Cleaver shirt from Argon Moto to put it to the test.
Featuring classic and relaxed styling, the Cleaver shirt offers great protection while still maintaining a great look for all your riding adventures. It’s constructed using heavy duty stitching, combined with a stretch Dupont Kevlar lining.
There’s also CE armour in the shoulders and elbows, which means the Argon Cleaver shirt offers much more protection than a standard t-shirt or long sleeve shirt could ever possibly provide.
Importantly, it also offers great air flow, which is definitely appreciated in the hotter ambient temperatures (although if you’ve ridden in Sydney over summer, we haven’t seen much of that).
With an internal YKK zipper and black press stud buttons, the Cleaver shirt is another high quality item from the team at Argon Moto. The fit across the arms and shoulders is spot on too, and a real plus for this product.

The CE armour sits where it should on the body as well, which gives peace of mind if the worst should happen. In our mind, that means the shirt is going to protect you as designed.
The Cleaver shirt is nice and comfortable, and a good length (which is also important). If you’re a plump person like this reviewer, an extra inch or two around the belly would be a nice to have.
In saying that, there is good stretch and the shirt still provides a nice relaxed fit, both on and off the bike. You can have it in any colour you like, as long as it’s black, which is fine by us, because it’s meant to be slimming.
Argon do have some other shirt options available if black is not your thing, with the Hatchet and Savage Flanno available in different styles and colours. As well as offering comfort and added rider protection, we also found the Cleaver shirt great for sun protection.
The long sleeves are extremely helpful in protecting you from the hot UV rays. There is plenty of storage too, with two external pockets and a generous pocket in the liner of the shirt.

Overall the Argon Cleaver shirt has been a great addition to our motorcycling kit and has been a real go-to bit of gear over the summer for us. Retailing from $159.95, the Cleaver is available from all good motorbike outlets and definitely worth checking out.

Pros – quality product; looks good; feels great.
Cons – Perhaps a little more room across the belly
