Alfa Romeo’s Tonale PHEV Q4 headed for Australia

Alfa Romeo is adding a new variant to its Tonale range, with the Plug-In Hybrid Q4 Veloce headed down under in October of this year. The most efficient offering from the car maker to date, it has an all-electric range of approximately 60km.

Loaded with technology, comfort, and safety, the Tonale PHEV Q4 combines efficiency with performance, and is capable of sprinting to 100km/h in 6.2 seconds. Offering 208kW of power, it features four driving modes; Advanced Efficiency, Natural, Dynamic and ESC Off.

Its advanced hybrid system combines a 132kW 1.3-litre turbocharged MultiAir 4-cylinder petrol engine, coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission (on the front axle), with an electric motor on the rear axle.

The latter is capable of supplying 90kW of maximum peak power and 250Nm of torque. Regenerative braking recovers energy during passive driving to recharge the 306-volt, 15.5kWh lithium-ion battery.

A Q4 e-AWD system delivers instantaneous deployment of 100 per cent of available torque from the electric motor when needed, ensuring rear axle will respond as soon as one steps on the throttle.

Equipped with a 7.4kW AC charger and a Type 2 smart charging port, it takes less than 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery. What makes this Tonale variant stand out though is the fact it foreshadows where Alfa Romeo is headed in terms of EV-focused sportiness.

Moreover, thanks to top-of-the-line roominess, increased on-board comfort, quiet driving, and reduced emissions, the new model is ideal for travelling alone or with family and friends, in both city and long-distance driving.

With the introduction of the Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4, the historic Alfa Romeo logo has also been reinterpreted, with the elegant elettro-biscione serigraphy now placed on the left rear window.

Available in Alfa White, Alfa Red, Alfa Black, Vesuvio Grey Metallic, Misano Blue Metallic and Montreal Green, the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4 is priced from $77,500 plus on-roads. To find out more, talk to your local Alfa Romeo dealer.
