The team at Chevrolet Racing is using this weekend’s OTR Supersprint Supercars event at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park (The Bend) near Adelaide to preview a refreshed ACDelco Monaro Top Door Slammer drag car.
The car, which also services as a fitting tribute to the late Sam Fenech given he once raced it, will make an appearance as part of pre-launch activity for the Dragway at The Bend. The new track is set to be Australia’s premier drag racing facility when it opens in October.
The decision to rebuild the 2017 Championship winning race machine was an emotional one for Fabietti Racing team owner Maurice Fabietti, but it’s been done with the support of the late racer’s family.
“His family believe it’s the right thing to do, as that’s what he would have wanted, it’s an appropriate legacy to a sport he loved so much and was himself such a big part of.”
The first competition run for the ACDelco drag car is planned for Oct 21-22 at Dragway at the Bend, as part of the Spring Nationals. Ronnie Palumbo will drive the car in Round One of the new National Drag Racing Championship.
For Chevrolet Racing, the return of the ACDelco machine marks the continuation of 18 years of involvement in the sport of drag racing, and the Fabietti team.
“We’d like to wish the Fabietti Racing team and driver Ronnie Palumbo every success in the coming Championship,” Chevrolet Racing GM Chris Payne said.
Sam Fenech tragically passed away in the Chevrolet Racing Camaro Pro Slammer at Willowbank Raceway in January of this year.
