Big, very big, in fact. That’s one way to describe the new Tunland V7‑C. Visually, it makes no attempt to look small. Its squared-off nose, stacked LED lighting and broad grille draw clear inspiration from US pickups such as the Ford F‑150.
On local Sydney roads, it has genuine presence. Towering over most SUV’s, it turned heads wherever we went. Curiosity got the better of some passers by, stopping to ask us what it was. Dimensionally, it sits between a Ranger and a RAM 1500.
That’s because it measures over 5.6m long, with a wide stance that fills suburban lanes and job-site car parks alike. For some inner‑city drivers, this size may feel excessive, but on the freeway and outer-suburban roads it feels entirely at home.
With the Australian ute market more competitive than ever, and in a landscape long dominated by the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D‑MAX, Chinese manufacturers are rapidly carving out serious share.

Being one of the more interesting recent arrivals, the Foton Tunland V7‑C 4×2 is an entry level, work-focused dual cab ute that aims to deliver big size, strong capability and modern tech, at a price point well below most established rivals.
For tradies, fleet buyers and value-conscious private owners, it presents a compelling new option. Under the bonnet, all Tunland variants share the same drivetrain: a 2.0‑litre four‑cylinder turbo diesel paired with a 48‑volt mild-hybrid system.
Matched to an eight‑speed ZF automatic transmission, outputs are 120kW and 450Nm; figures that place the Tunland behind some rivals on outright power but still put it in a competitive position on torque.
In real-world driving the Foton felt a little sluggish off the mark, however once moving we found the strong low‑rpm torque delivery adequate for loaded work duties. We are a little skeptical however, how it would perform hauling along its maximum 3500kg towing capacity.

The mild-hybrid system assists with smoother take-offs and improved efficiency, particularly in urban driving. Official combined fuel consumption is a respectable 8.0-litres/100km, given the vehicle’s size and weight. We managed to achieve just over that in real world testing.
Available drive modes include Eco, Standard, and Sport, with the 4×2 missing out on Sand, Mud and Snow. The V7‑C uses leaf springs at the rear, prioritising payload capacity over ride comfort. Around Sydney’s uneven suburban roads, the unladen ride can feel firm.
That’s particularly so over sharp bumps, but this is consistent with the ute’s work first intent. Once loaded with tools or materials, the suspension settles noticeably, delivering better composure and stability.
Steering is electrically assisted with multiple modes, making low-speed manoeuvring easier than expected for such a large vehicle. On the freeway, the Tunland cruises comfortably, with low engine noise.

Lane departure assistance is overzealous though, and we were constantly fighting with the safety systems. Its turning circle is larger than mid-size rivals, which is certainly something to keep in mind.
This is where the very effective panoramic 360-degree view camera, with integrated dash camera, came in very handy. Step inside the Tunland V7‑C and expectations are quickly reset. Despite its budget pricing, the cabin feels modern, spacious, and dare we say quite luxurious.
The contrasting red and white stitching, gloss black timber, and shadow chrome accents throughout give the cabin an upmarket feel. The plush synthetic leather seats are relatively comfortable, and 6-way manually adjustable.
The steering wheel is 4-way manually adjustable, and it too is wrapped in synthetic leather. The dashboard features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, offering functions like a 3D reversing camera, AM/FM radio, and Bluetooth.

Wireless Apple CarPlay is supported, however Android phones are not. The Tunland offers plenty of cabin storage, large door bins and a commanding driving position. Generous shoulder and leg room is available in both rows.
It’s more than sufficient for adult passengers, making it suitable for family use. Where the Foton really shines is in its work credentials. With a payload of more than 1100kg and 3500kg braked towing capacity, it matches or exceeds many established competitors.
The tub is large enough to carry a standard Australian pallet and comes with a spray-in liner and multiple tie-down points as standard, making it well suited to construction and trade use. The Tunland V7‑C comes well equipped with modern safety technology too.
That includes autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring and the aforementioned 360‑degree camera system. This level of standard safety tech is impressive at its $39,990 (before on-roads) price point.

Overall, the 2026 Foton Tunland V7‑C 4×2 undercuts many mainstream dual-cab utes, while offering significantly larger exterior dimensions. The aggressive pricing is one of its strongest selling points.
Positioned squarely as a no‑nonsense workhorse, it’s aimed at trades, councils and fleets, but also targets private buyers who want space and presence without stepping into American full-size pickup pricing.
It’s backed by a 7‑year warranty, roadside assistance, and capped-price servicing. These inclusions go a long way toward easing concerns about long-term ownership and resale. Put simply, it’s not trying to out‑polish premium lifestyle utes.
It doesn’t pretend to be a hardcore off‑roader either. Instead, it delivers space, load capacity, modern tech and a strong warranty, at a sharp price. Its size may be overkill, and the firm unladen ride won’t suit everyone, but it certainly makes a compelling option.
