The 2025 Polestar 4 Long Range Single Motor embodies a design ethos that is both minimalistic and sophisticated. Its clean, streamlined aesthetic may not cater to all tastes but undeniably makes a bold statement.
The vehicle’s commanding dimensions and striking presence are further accentuated by sleek headlight slots and a rear design that omits the conventional window, hinting at the innovative interior concept within.
In a rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape, the Polestar 4 uses a purpose-built Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform developed by parent company Geely. Built in China, it’s part of an open architecture approach to car design.
Up against the likes of the Tesla Model Y and the recently released Kia EV5, the Polestar 4 we’re testing features the versatile Snow exterior paint. It’s a colour that shifts from brilliant white in bright sunlight to a subtle grey tone in the evening.
The front of the vehicle features Pixel LED headlights, which automatically adjust to oncoming traffic to reduce glare. They may react to large reflective street signs though, which is an occasional inconvenience.
The standard 20-inch Aero wheels, paired with Pirelli tires bearing the Polestar Electric emblem, complement the car’s proportions perfectly. For an additional $2,500, buyers can upgrade to 21-inch Sport wheels.
Owing to the absence of a rear window, visibility is provided through a camera display. While effective, this display’s positioning may require adaptation, particularly for individuals who wear glasses, due to its proximity to the driver.
Access to the car is seamless, with either a remote key or a credit card key. The former’s lack of buttons can make granting access to others challenging. Recessed door handles deploy to facilitate entry.
Interior components like the seat and steering wheel automatically adjust to preset configurations upon entry. The enormous array of cameras provide comprehensive visibility on-screen.
There are 12 cameras in all, including the driver alert view which monitors your facial features for signs of fatigue. With this level of technology, it’s amazing the Polestar does not have hands free parking.
The interior combines sustainability with elegance, incorporating recycled materials and a Mist Tailored Knit finish, complemented by an optional Mist Nappa upgrade. The central console features intuitive design elements.
This includes a prominently placed volume and mute button, a variety of storage solutions, a wireless phone charging area, and cup holders covered by a sliding aluminium cover. Rear passengers have power-heated, reclining seats.
They also get climate and sound controls accessible through a rear panel, with override functionality available to the driver. A panoramic glass roof enhances the sense of space, with an electrochromic option ($2,700) that adjusts opaqueness automatically.
This forms part of a Plus Pack. Interior lighting adds to the atmosphere, with a planetary-themed ambience controlled via the 14.7-inch touchscreen infotainment display. LED-lit door trims with backlit decorative elements are spectacular.
The front seats are 12-way adjustable with heating capabilities, complemented by a heated steering wheel that also adjusts for reach and height. The warming function is very efficient, and in fact gets too hot for comfort.
In the rear, storage is enhanced by a flat floor design, offering 526-litres of cargo space, expandable to 1,536-litres with the rear seats folded. Added functionalities include a powered boot lid with a kick sensor, a 12V outlet and tie-down points.
There’s also a spacious underfloor compartment. Under the bonnet you’ll find space for a charging cable and tire inflator. Notably, the manual release for the front bonnet offers reliability in case of a flat battery.
A motorised tow bar is also available as an optional feature with a capacity of up to 2,000kg. Delivering 200kW of power and 343Nm of torque to the rear wheels, the Polestar 4 achieves a 0-100km/h sprint in 7.2 seconds, maintaining near silence throughout.
It boasts an estimated range of 620km on a full charge, supported by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery. It supports AC charging up to 11kW and DC fast charging at 200kW. The Polestar 4 offers a dynamic and enjoyable driving experience.
It has well-implemented one-pedal driving, enhancing control and convenience. The vehicle features adjustable performance and range modes, though accessing them via the central touchscreen may raise questions about ease of use and driver safety.
Its reliable handling and serene operation make long-distance journeys effortless and relaxing. Safety features abound, including intelligent speed assist, lane keeping aid, driver alert monitoring, and collision avoidance and mitigation.
While park assist is standard, the option for automatic parking is absent. Polestar backs its vehicles with a comprehensive 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty. The battery gets an 8-year or 160,000km warranty.
Complimentary servicing is provided for 5-years or 100,000km. The Polestar 4 Long Range Single Motor is priced at $78,500 plus on-roads. Optional upgrades include a Plus Pack ($8,000) anda Pro Pack (including 21-inch Pro wheels and gold seat belts).
