2025 Lexus RX 350h Sports Luxury AWD (car review)

In a rapidly evolving automotive landscape, the 2025 Lexus RX 350h Sports Luxury AWD, tested here with the EP2 option pack onboard, still exemplifies luxury, efficiency, and advanced technology.

Priced at $129,495 drive away in this configuration, the hybrid SUV is very much a premium option. Finished in an impressive Sonic Chrome color, it immediately captures attention with its bold design and refined details.

Assertive yet elegant is probably the most apt description of its new exterior, which combines 21-inch alloy wheels with Lexus’ signature spindle grille and sharp LED headlights.

Inside, you’ll find a luxurious and comfortable cabin featuring plenty of soft-touch surfaces, premium leather, and elegant trims. Its 5-seat layout is spacious for all occupants, with plenty of leg and headroom throughout.

The 14.0-inch touchscreen display is seamlessly integrated into the dashboard, providing crisp visuals and intuitive controls for navigation, media, and climate settings. It’s not the easiest system to use, but you get the hand of it.

There’s a wireless phone charger, and similarly cord-free Apple CarPlay, although you’ll still need to plug-in for Android Auto. Audio comes from a 21-speaker premium surround sound system, complete with a subwoofer.

Dual-zone climate control (which also takes some getting used to, controls wise), heated and ventilated seats, and ambient lighting enhance the experience. The front seats, and even the headrests are heated and ventilated.

Both score 10-way power adjustment for both the driver and passenger, while the second row features power-folding seats. The heated steering wheel features paddle shifters, and there’s a head-up display for easier driving.

Under the bonnet of the RX 350h is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, paired with a hybrid system to produce 184kW of power. Combined fuel economy is 5.4-litres/100km. Paired to a CVT gearbox, the package feels smooth, with effortless power delivery.

We tested it in everything from city traffic to out on country roads, with the RX 350h impressing with its adaptability. Its intelligent all-wheel drive system offers excellent control and stability.

Poised on road, its hybrid powertrain steps in to provide an engaging and refined driving experience. The transition between electric and petrol power is nearly undetectable, resulting in seamless acceleration.

It’s confidence-inspiring on the freeway too, making overtakes a simple task. The adaptive suspension system softens road imperfections while providing a firm ride. This blend of comfort and agility makes long journeys less tiring. and each drive feel luxuriously smooth.

The responsive steering offers great feedback. It performs well on the open road and does an equally impressive job of handling bumper-to-bumper traffic. It’s easy to park too. Towing capacity lets it down a little at just 1,500kg (braked).

Expansion Pack 2 adds a digital rear view mirror, intelligent park assist and a panoramic glass roof with sliding sunroof. The Lexus RX 350h offers an experience that is both emotionally engaging and technically impressive.

It exemplifies what a modern luxury SUV should be – refined, efficient, and built to last, and that’s hard to go past. It’s backed by a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, with the option to extend traction battery coverage (part of the hybrid system) for up to 10-years.

It’s available in 10 exterior colours. The list includes Sonic Quartz, Titanium, Sonic Chrome, Sonic Iridium, Graphite Black, Vermillion, Sonic Copper, Khaki Metal and Deep Blue. There are six two-tone interior trim options as well.
