2025 Genesis GV70 Signature Sport AWD 3.5T (car review)

The 2025 Genesis GV70 Signature Sport AWD 3.5T is a car that turns heads. Whether that’s people who are not quite sure what it is, or those who appreciate its beauty – we get it. Offering next level luxury, it stands out from the crowd.

The design of the GV70 oozes sleek, refined elegance. With elongated lines, and wide doors, you can’t appreciate the looks. The diamond grille gives a toughness to the exterior, and paired with the LED headlights, is genuinely striking.

The paint options are plenty, and include gloss offerings like Uyuni White, Savile Silver, Makalu Grey, Vik Black, Storr Green, Ceres Blue, Mauna Red, Capri Blue. In the Matte offerings you’ll find Matterhorn White, Start, Green, Ceres Blue and Makalu Grey.

These attract a $2000 premium, but in our opinion, it’s worth it to set your ride apart from everything else on the road. The Genesis has a 27-inch OLED display that incorporates the instrument cluster and infotainment, and a Bang & Olufsen 16-speaker sound system.

It’s oddly a little flat in the audio stakes. That said, you will find wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and both of which work flawlessly. The interior aesthetics are beautiful, classy, and simple, but very well done.

Augmented reality navigation and a full colour head-up display feature, along with heated and ventilated seats throughout. Touch-type air conditioning controls provide rear seat passengers with plenty of control, as well.

The standout though is the exceptional front ergo-motion massage front seats, which provide astounding comfort, along with the unique UV-sterilising cubby located in the centre console.

It’s hard to fault, save for the fact that the dials for the infotainment system and gears are sat one behind the other, and we reckon it will take some getting used to, when selecting the correct one.

But it’s in the customisation where the Genesis GV70 really stands out. The dash/door colour is Obsidian Black, with no other options, but the seats, in those you can choose from Obsidian Black, Vanilla Beige, Sevilla Red, and Ultramarine Blue.

On the road, this luxurious SUV drives with such class and style, thanks to its 3.5-litre 279kW/530Nm 6-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Trust us when we say this car has a lovely exhaust note and a fair amount of grunt to make you feel more powerful.

Pair this power and the 8-speed auto with a smooth ride, and it’s nothing but love for this car. Riding on 21-inch alloy wheels, it does a great job of absorbing bumps in the road. It’s only downside is relatively light steering.

While it tightens up when you throw it in Sport mode, it makes the car feel a little underdone in terms of being glued to the road. There’s a bit of body roll too when you push it hard through corners. Fuel economy is 11.3-litres/100km.

If you need to bring along a caravan or trailer on your next trip, it also has a 2,200kg braked towing capacity. And then there’s the safety tech, including stability and traction control, ABS, brake assist, hill start assist and multi-collision braking.

Trailer stability assist, blind spot collision avoidance and view monitoring, leading vehicle departure alert, forward attention warning, and forward collision avoidance assist, with oncoming car, pedestrian and cyclist detection, all feature.

Junction assist, lane change assist, evasive steering assist, high beam assist, highway driving assist (including distance, lane follow and lane change control), and parking collision avoidance assist are also included.

If that’s not enough, you score rear cross-traffic assist, navigation-based smart cruise control and a surround view monitor. There are more, but we’d be here all day if we kept telling you about them.

The only safety feature we didn’t love was the steering wheel vibration when you were reversing and someone walked behind you. One short vibration would suffice, but it rattled and carried on until it was safe to proceed.

Owning one in its ‘as tested’ Signature Sport trim, with matte Makula Grey paint, will set you back $111,600 or just over – drive away, depending on where you live. The 2025 GV70 is backed by a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty.

Genesis calls it the epitome of sophistication and luxury, and we can’t disagree. It’s class and comfort wrapped in one hell of a car. You can find out more online, or by talking to your local dealership.
