The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GSR continues to stand its ground as a robust seven-seat SUV. While in some ways it feels a little dated, its refreshed bold and contemporary design, rugged functionality and modern styling give it a distinctive look.
Sporting black 18-inch alloy wheels, a black roof, and a black rear spoiler, as well as LED headlights and cornering lights, it has a real road presence. You can also opt for a black roof on exterior shades like White Diamond, Terra Rossa and Graphite Grey.
Practical additions such as roof rails and side steps further enhance its versatility. Under the hood, a reliable 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel engine delivering 133kW of power and 430Nm of torque features. That’s paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
This powertrain strikes a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, achieving a combined fuel consumption of 8.0-litres/100km. While not class-leading, it’s more than capable for daily driving, towing, and off-road adventures.
The Super Select II 4WD system is a standout feature, offering four driving modes, including 2WD High Range, Full-Time 4WD, High Range 4WD with a locked center differential, and Low Range 4WD. It has a braked towing capacity of 3100kg.

Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the selectable Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand, and Rock modes. On the road, the Pajero Sport GSR offers a refined and composed ride. The ladder-frame chassis and coil spring suspension deliver a comfortable driving experience.
The steering provides good feedback, enhancing control both on highways and when you tackle off-road trails. Its narrower dimensions against some rivals also make it easier to navigate through various environments.
It’s fair to say it stands out in the rough stuff though, shining off road with its solid 4WD capabilities, allowing it to tackle steep inclines, rocky paths, and muddy tracks effortlessly. Hill descent control and hill start assist further enhance its usability.
We tackled some decent forest trails and were impressed by the Mitsubishi’s four-wheel drive system, particularly just how good it was in 4H. It was only when things got properly bumpy that we had to switch to 4L to tackle the serious stuff.
Driving over some big bumps, we found the car soaked them up quite well, enabling the driver to keep it on the straight and narrow. Its dynamics made off roading fun, with some decent turning capabilities paired with good steering feel ensuring a great ride.

Inside, the Pajero Sport GSR provides a welcoming and functional cabin, adorned with premium materials like two-tone burgundy and black leather-appointed seats. The front row is heated, and there’s plenty of power adjustment for both driver and passenger.
Ergonomically, you sit quite high in the cabin, which ensures a decent amount of visibility. Thankfully there’s side steps when you need to jump in and out. An 8-speaker premium sound system delivers the tunes, but there’s no wireless phone charger.
Row two is a mixed bag, and while the seats look good, they feel a bit like a park bench. You can adjust the angle of them to allow you to relax, should you need to. Rear air vents provide good climate control, with adjustable fan speeds.
A proper power point and two USB ports can also be found in the middle seats. The third row provides seating for two additional passengers, and there are additional air vents back there as well. They’re are probably only kid friendly though.
The GSR features an updated 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster with customisable displays and a similarly sized touchscreen infotainment system. It comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and you’ll find multiple USB ports and even a HDMI input.

An electric tailgate simplifies loading, while storage solutions like a rear floor storage box and underfloor compartments provide added convenience. Mitsubishi’s MiTEC safety suite equips the Pajero Sport GSR with an array of advanced driver-assistance features too.
This includes forward collision mitigation, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic alert and a multi-around view monitor. Overall, it remains a compelling choice despite the fact some elements of its design and tech are showing their age.
Its proven reliability, off-road prowess, and practical features ensure it stays relevant in a competitive segment. Priced from $62,440 plus on-roads, the 2024 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport GSR offers excellent value.
Backed by a conditional 10-year warranty and capped-price servicing, it will happily conquer rugged trails or navigating the urban jungle. You can find out more on the Mitsubishi Australia website, or by talking to your local dealership.
