2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2-Door (car review)

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon embodies a perfect blend of rugged sophistication and off-road capability. Its pristine white exterior seamlessly merges classic Jeep heritage with contemporary, muscular aesthetics.

The two-door layout we’re testing adds a sporty touch, in a vehicle equipped for urban escapades and wilderness trails, but that comes with a downside. That lack of rear doors is far less inclusive for families or anyone who has more than one friend, to be honest.

Granted, there are back seats, they just aren’t the roomiest and it’s a bit of a trek getting back there. Somewhat amusingly, that’s very on brand for the Rubicon; the adventure never ends.

That is if you consider breaking your back wrestling your 5-year-old into their car seat an adventure. Given its smaller size, it also doesn’t leave much room for a boot, with just 365-litres on offer.

Under the bonnet, the Rubicon impresses with a powerful engine that ensures robust performance on city streets and challenging terrain, with its 2.0-litre engine delivering 200kW and 400Nm. More than enough to scale rocks comfortably or cruise around town.

It has a claimed fuel economy of 11.9-litres/100km, although we generally saw 14.2-litres/100km, which jumped up dramatically once we engaged 4×4 and took her off road. That means fuel consumption is a huge consideration in cost of ownership.

The road noise from the 32-inch off road tyres will require you always have the windows up and the music loud. They’re fantastic in the dirt, especially when paired with the suspension package, but on the tarmac, that’s a different story.

They almost feel like they’re tripping over themselves thanks to a mega amount of grip. Enhanced by an advanced 4×4 system, high ground clearance, and heavy-duty axles, the vehicle’s off-road capabilities are top-notch.

The Rubicon is fitted with Jeep’s Rock-Trac active on-demand 4×4 system, with a 4:1 transfer case, a 77.2:1 crawl ratio, Tru-Lok front and rear diff locks, an electronic front sway bar disconnect and performance suspension. It’s confidence inspiring, for sure.

Inside, the well-crafted interior strikes a balance between comfort and functionality, with durable, weather-resistant seats and an intuitive infotainment system featuring a user-friendly touchscreen for seamless connectivity and entertainment.

For audiophiles, the premium sound system delivers crystal-clear audio, turning every drive into a concert on wheels, powered by Alpine speakers. The downside of that interior is the tight and weirdly-shaped driver’s side foot well.

It leaves your left leg with nowhere to rest. It’s an issue we’ve raised before too. That aside, there’s plenty of safety bundled up in the Wrangler Rubicon, with an array of modern safety features and driver assistance systems.

It’s available with a range of accessories too, including roof racks and specialised lighting. Exterior colours include Bright White, Hydro Blue, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Sarge, Silver Zynith, High Velocity, Earl, Anvil and Tuscadero (Pink).

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 2-Door features removable doors and top, which allows you to fully immerse yourself in nature, feeling the wind and embracing the elements. The robust skid plates and rock rails ensure it can handle the tough stuff too.

Priced at $91,285 drive away, it’s backed by a 5-year or 100,000km warranty, 5-years of capped price servicing and lifetime roadside assist. You can find out more on the Jeep Australia website, or by talking to your local dealership.
